You get the life you choose

These words suddenly popped into my head tonight. I don't know where they came from and I don't know why, but I don't think anything ever made so much sense.

I used to believe in karma. That 'bad' people would eventually get what was coming. But in day-to-day life, there are a 1,000 examples of this not being the case. And 1,000 examples of 'good' people being afflicted with situations, illnesses, etc. it's incomprehensible any 'god' could have deemed they deserved.

You get the life you choose. Sure, some things you have no power over. You were born on a certain day in a certain place, and you'll die at an unspecified time, at a destination not yet known. Certain things just happen on the way. Coincidence, fate or god (however you choose to see it) bring you into contact with certain individuals and environments. But while ever there is freedom of thought, there is freedom of choice.

You can choose to be the victim "look what he did to me!" (or "look what circumstance did to me!", or, even worse "look what I did to myself!"), or you can choose to be the victor, and take babysteps to rise up above it. I've stayed in bed for months after a breakup. Let me tell you, looking back, I am pretty pissed. Those are months I'll never get back! He didn't do that to me. In all honesty, I did that to myself. I was weak willed. I'm not going to allow myself to do it again.

If your ex was a schmuck, well, guess what? They get the life they chose. There can't be anything worse than looking at yourself in the mirror every day, and seeing a schmuck looking back. Take a second to ask yourself, do you deserve to be with a schmuck? Or are you looking for a little bit better?

You get the life you choose.

I agree! I disagree with the definition of kharma being "what one deserves" but everything else rings true. Good for you for getting out of bed and looking in the mirror as someone you like to see!

I dont know,I wasnt at fault for having been Dyslexic and I know because of it I will not be able to achieve certain intelligence and because of this my life has been a constant struggle, especialy my love life which is non existent.

It does read as a nice post to others though.

I'm sorry for your issues risilient (interesting choice of ID's given his downer response), however it's clear that Mellie was posting an insight that was important for her to communicate and equally important for many to read. Done with you.

Mellie, I love to read the sparks! Regardless if their an insight or not, it's like watching a movie with a powerful conclusion or message (like ... August Rush).

Thank you so much for sharing, made my night!

I agree! I've heard it like this:

We don't get the life we deserve,

We get the life we think we deserve.

Mellie, didnt mean to put down your post but in fact reason I posted was because it had an impact as soon as i read it.I partially agree or better yet,I want to fully agree on this point of view because that would actualy mean that I there is a way for me to change.
