Kalika
One of my cats, both about age 7-8, has suddenly started having accidents - on my couch and in my living room, nowhere near the litter box!! I don't know which cat it is that is having accidents though, and I don't want to take both of them to the vet if I don't have to - any ideas on how to figure out who the culprit is? Does anyone also have any ideas why this keeps happening?? My guess is some type of UTI or medical infection..?
journeynow
Maybe a bladder infection? Do you have one that frequents the litter box more than usual? You might add a litter box or two in different areas of the house, which may help the cat and may also help you observe if one is peeing more than usual. Mercurial Girl
That's often a first sign of UTI, especially if it's a male. Try to keep them in different areas of the house or separate rooms for the day. Rule out medical reasons first, then move on to behaviour if he turns out perfectly healthy. abitbroken
If its all the sudden, it is either infection, like stated above, or a sudden major change at the house that is stressing them. Or the litter box is not clean enough. Cats will pee outside the box when the box isn't kept up.
Seraphim
Yes, a UTI and the litter box. You may feel it is clean enough but that particular cat may not feel that way. I would place my bet on a medical reason though.
Sunny1607307996
Since it is all of the sudden, I would venture to say it is a UTI. First, you have to separate the cats, so you can determine which is having issues. Second, you need to call the vet. If money is a concern, you can ask if you can just bring in the urine sample and not the cat. If it's not a UTI, then the vet needs to examine the cat. 7-8 years is the age when all sorts of medical issues can begin, and you need to stay on top of this if it's not a UTI. From what you're describing it doesn't sound behavioral, but it's best to rule out medical reasons before you do some behavior modification.
