Vertigo565
I got news that my girlfriend might be moving 200 miles away (about 3.5 hours) for a job. I'm just wondering what kind of distances other people are looking at. Link to comment
OptomisticGirl
4,000 miles and a 5 hour time difference - I'm in the States, he's in England. Link to comment
velvette
13 hour time difference, 7838 miles. but, never more than 3 months at a time! it's killing us, it sucks so bad, but I'm flying to be with him on monday. n__n long distance is do-able but will need plenty of communication. I don't suggest it though, it's not very fun at all... Link to comment
Minx2012
I'm in a long distance relationship now. He is around 6000 miles ( 9400 km ) / 4 hr difference away. We've been together for 5 years ( 3 years of being physically together and going on 2 years of being long distance ). The long distance sucks...but we're trying our best and modern technology makes it worthwhile...but not for too long, I hope. Link to comment
Vertigo565
Yeah its going to suck, supposedly it will "only" be for a couple of years until she can get experience and find something closer. We should be able to see each other on the weekends at least... I can't imagine being thousands of miles away, don't think I could do that! Link to comment
ItalianLover25
my boyfriend is about 1,200 miles away. Michigan to Colorado. No matter how many miles, if it's more than 50 it can get tough. But if you want to make it work, you will. Link to comment
The_Seeker
About two hours away. We're both from different states. It gets tough at times. Link to comment
lifeisaparadox
5000 miles and 8 hour time difference. I pretty much have the worst sleep pattern ever LOL. Link to comment
eastmeetswest
3000 miles & 3 hour time difference Link to comment
scotsguy
8975 miles. Do I win? 7 hour time difference, which means I go to bed just before she gets up. 27-28 hours travel time too. It's a long way. Link to comment
professorplum
That sounds grim. When will she be back scotsguy? Hopefully not too long now and this time for good? Link to comment
scotsguy
October, or maybe earlier depending on how things go. It's just too far (and expensive) to visit very often. Hopefully she'll be back for good, but we're not sure yet. Fortunately I'll be in a different position by Christmas and will be free to go anywhere, assuming I can get work. I'm just happy we're 'together' in the most important sense of the word. Being together in person will have to wait for now, but I'm very much looking forward to that day. Link to comment
wixxer
I've got approximately 800 km which I suppose isn't as far as it is infuriating.... Link to comment
superfox
Wow! Where is she scotsguy? Mines only 70 miles, 1:15 in a car, 2+ hours on a train (1 change). It's not far away at all and I count my blessings BUT last year he had to go to hospital one night as a minor emergency...I was helpless, no car, no train running, work and childcare to sort. He might as well have been on the moon. That sucks. Link to comment
scotsguy
In the middle of nowhere LOL she's in Australia, which is about as far as you can get from here. Not in a city either, so even more travel time. At least with Skype and instant messaging it doesn't seem like quite so far Superfox, you've hit the nail on the head. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how far you are away if something goes wrong. You're just as helpless as if they were on the moon. I've never been in that position (except once when we were broken up for a while - that's another story and I'm not quite sure what I would do if it happened now. Link to comment
kiwijim
Once I was in a relationship with a girl in Korea and I was in Australia. That was in the days before internet, skype and facebook. It was hard and in the end didnt work out Link to comment
Noddy Osbourne
I live in Vancouver, Canada and my boyfriend lives in Manchester, England. We are 4562 miles apart and there is an 8 hour time difference! There is a lot of trust there though despite never having met yet in person, as we have known each other for 9 years and have been there for each other through good and very bad times. We finally admitted we liked each other last summer and are now doing the long distance thing. It's hard sometimes but I really believe he is the one for me, and he is so worth the wait. I have never felt such a great amount of love before for anyone and I know he feels the same and we both have the same values about love and commitment and know each other more than anyone else. agburns84
A girl I've been seeing since early March (met online back in December/Jan) lives 3.5 or so hours away by train, fortunately in the times we have met it's been at her uni over lunch break which is a little less, but it's a beautiful train ride up and I love to travel so it's something I've become somewhat used to. Only problem is having to miss a day of work when I see her during the week as she works weekends, which means no pay as I'm a casual, though that doesn't matter much to me at this stage as it's going really well. I'm quite new to this long distance thing as my ex lived a lot closer, but so far so good. Link to comment
Fudgie
Out of state, about 200 miles. About 3-3.5 hours by car. Won't be that way for long though. Link to comment
Irial
About 5000 miles (not sure exactly). I'm in Rome (Italy), he's in Minnesota. Takes about 15h by plane to get there, 7h difference. Link to comment
kiwijim
Once I was in Australia and my GF was in the Middle East. It was hard and eventally fizzled out but that was years ago before cell phones the internet and skype. Might be showing my age here Link to comment
trolleycar
4000 miles and 5 time zones. And I think the 5 times zones is the worst part like in the morning I talk to her a 8:00 am in London and 3:00 am in New York before her goes work. Then again noon in London and 7:00 am in New York and the even call 10:00 pm in London and 5:00 pm in New York and the weekend are not a heck of lot better. It seems that a lot more of folks are on line in London so to it is very hard to connect. Link to comment
piruru
4 hours/350km. It's so close yet so far Link to comment
carolinadream
2,560 miles. 38 hours drive time, which means we fly. Link to comment
