RoxyGril
There were a few other areas where I wasn't exactly sure to post this. But I have been on BC for 5 yrs now and for awhile I haven't had insurance to help cover going to the doctors (obgyn) etc. So, I have been going to planned parenthood and which this has helped me out. Well, I started my current job 9 months ago and now have insurance. The thing is with planned parenthood that they would give me a years worth of bc until I was due to my yearly. Which I didn't mind having a yrs worth on hand with out paying a co-pay every month @ the pharmacy. When I first started taking bc I had insurance and remember having to pay somewhere around $25 every month. So, my question is.....Now having insurance am I able to go to planned parenthood to get my bc? Or do I have to go to my obgyn? Link to comment
OptomisticGirl
You can go to PP but you will probably have to pay a co pay - apparently my income is so slwo in this area i have had a job for lamost 2 years now and have never paid for my BC. Link to comment
RoxyGril
My income isn't awhole lot either but can say its a bit more then what I was making with working in prior jobs. But, there is a co pay when I get there that should be fine. I guess I just wasn't wanting to pay every month at the pharmacy to pick them up. I just find it so much easier on how they give you a years worth at one time. Thanks for the info! Link to comment
Fudgie
PP does take most insurance cards. I would definitely go there if you can and get a year's supply. Beats paying $10-$15/month at the pharmacy Link to comment
BellaDonna
Planned Parenthood will take your insurance and they still treat you as a patient if you are insured, but what you pay for Birth Control will now be determined by your level of coverage you have and if there is a copayment. I don't think the insurance company will allow you to get a year's supply in advance whether you get them at the clinic or at the pharmacy. I'm pretty sure they will only pay for what you can use month to month. For instance, once I lost my pill pack 2 weeks into taking it, and had to immediately get another one so I would not miss a pill. My insurance company would not pay for 2 packs in one month. If that is the case I would imagine they won't pay for 12 packs at once. They make you wait a certain number of days (I think around 20??) before you can fill the next month's prescription. They are worried about people throwing them out, selling them, or otherwise wasting the insurance payments that were made to buy their pills. Link to comment
RoxyGril
I just found out that they want $75 as a co-pay through my insurance and that my bc would go through a pharmacy. I asked if I could use my card that goes through planned parent and now that doesn't work any longer since I have insurance. I believe I can get a cheaper copay through my doctor then through planned parenthood. So, I guess I don't have much of a choice then to go to my obgyn for my bc and yearly. Kinda a bummer because have a year supply at home was really convinent. Link to comment
Fudgie
Wait, let me just check here... They want you to pay $75 as a copay for a YEAR supply of BC pills? Link to comment
RoxyGril
They do want $75 for the copay and for BC pills they want me to go through the pharmacy to pick them up. Which I thought sounded a bit ridiculous imo. IDK if I misunderstood her or not but that's what it seemed like. Link to comment
