Frustrated

Jetta

Recommended Posts

I was denied a job because I haven't worked for 1 solid year in the last 5 years. I found this out today because I checked on a previously filed application. That just sucks. It's like they came up with some arbitrary cut off just to find a reason not to hire me. I worked in 2006-2007, and again in 2010 (for my internship) but not from 2007 to 2009. Guess I have to do this stupid temp job for a while just so I can get back into the workforce again. They're paying me crap; I made more back in 2002, so I'm very disgruntle right now knowing they're making money off me and I'm working for peanuts.

That's what temping is. NEVER in this economy, go for longer than six months unemployed. It is the kiss of death. I don't know why. Many, many, people have been out of work for over six months, but I have heard from many people that they were not hired for that reason. I am currently employed and am searching for a different job. I have a better chance than most people because I have been employed continuously since 1994. It really is unfair and it sucks, I know.

? A few days ago you were really excited for the temp job. What happened?

I don't think they trumped up that clause to not hire you, Jetta. If they wanted you on board, it would have happened. Just means it wasn't the right opportunity right now.

Be happy for the blessings before you. There are SO many Americans that would love to have your temp job.

I've been hearing this one more lately too. It's been in the media lately - perhaps even on NPR, now that I think of it...

The idea is that the people still working are the "cream of the crop." Everybody else is the deadweight, the slackers, the undesireables.

And right now the employers can pretty well write the book in regards to who, how, and why they hire. They have the supply and the demand for that supply outstrips what they could provide. End story, they can pick and choose for any reason they like...

I'm less excited because it's temp and mediocre pay. However I am excited to have something but it's discouraging to find out negative things about a job I was totally qualified for and really should have at least gotten an interview for. They baited and switched the temp job on me, they also have changed the start date from this week to next week. I'm really not liking the temp place these days, but it's all I've got so I'm stuck.

As far as being a slacker I opted to not work while in college so I could focus my energies on completing my degree. Prior to college I was working until I got sick, then I took time off. Generally my out of work time is by choice, I have stellar references so if they actually check them they would find out I'm a dedicated worker.

But this temp job is in my field of choice learning something I want to learn and I heard through the grapevine is the experience I need to advance my career. Just at a reduced rate of pay that has me upset for lack of a better word.
