Maroney555
Have any of you had any real orthodontic treatment? I had braces in junior high/beginning of high school and I am faced with getting them again. How long do you have them on the second go? How much on average do they cost? Are ceramic braces THAT much more expensive? ALSO! I have to get jaw surgery to correct my underbite. Have any of you undergone that? How was the experience?? Thanks, Maroney
Seraphim
I believe that my brother paid about $6000 for his braces. I am not sure how long he wore them for. He was older when he had them though, he was about 38 I think. I just had dental surgery in August. Not to have my bite corrected or anything but let me tell you it was once of the worst pains I have ever experienced and that includes migraines and child birth and broken bones. I think I would rather have someone run over my head with a truck.

Seraphim
I don't have wisdom teeth so I can not say how that hurts. I am one of those people that naturally does not have any. However I have had a tooth extracted and that is a zero on my pain scale. However having someone cut my gums open and dig down to my jaw bone was UNREAL once the freezing wore off. That was about an 11 on the pain scale to 10.

Seraphim
It was about $1100 for exploratory surgery and now another $400 for extraction and $900 for a plate after.
Maroney555
Hmmmm...that's not too terrible. Mine might be a bit more complicated though. Thanks Victoria!
Madison12
I have braces. I had to have my wisdom teeth and four additional teeth extracted, in addition to seeing a periodontist. You might want to check into lingual braces if you can afford them. They are behind my teeth so you can't see them. I paid about $11K for mine. Worth every penny though. Maroney555
Oh dang, I don't have that kind of money lol thanks, though
Madison12
Maroney most orthodontists will put you on a monthly payment plan. I put some money down and am now just paying the rest over the course of my treatment.
thejigsup
I never had braces, but I have had extensive oral surgery. I had implants put in for all my front teeth, top and bottom. Cost? Very little. I had this done years ago when everyone had dental insurance. Pain? Not as bad as childbirth, but close. Very close.
workoutgirl70
I had ceramic braces a few years ago and paid $2500. Worth every penny and the great thing about ceramic is they do not leave the gray line on your teeth like metal ones do and they don't eat up the inside of your mouth either. I had a few callouses from them but once the braces came off they went away. I also got a clear retainer, looks like an invisalign, much better than old fashioned wire kind. I wear it about once a week or whenever I feel like they have shifted and I need to. If you can afford it I would go with ceramic. My clear retainer was free because I referred some other people to their office. Never hurts to ask for discounts.
Maroney555
Oh man! I knew it was going to hurt (obviously) but I was hoping my high tolerance would make it not so bad....doesn't sound like it though Super nervous lol maybe I can convince them to fix my jaw without surgery...? lol Wow $2500? That's doable! Around here there are ranges up to $6000. Ya, I really want the ceramics. I don't want to do the brace face thing again. With ceramics, how bad do the bands stain? I heard the braces don't stain, but the bands do...I LOVE red wine and need my coffee in the morning lol Also, does anyone know if there would be any discounts available? Say I put down half to 75% of the full cost down from the get go...? Would they bargain and make them cheaper Thanks for all the help everyone! The info is great....now just have to man up about my jaw surgery.
