My timid indoor cat escaped :(

My female (extremely timid and scare) indoor cat got out sometime during the night on Friday with our other male cat bc he broke through the screen door. He came back the next morning but she's been missing ever since. She's never been outside before and she is very scared of unfamiliar things or people. I've laid food out, litter outside for the scent, and I went around my neighborhood just now wi a food bowl and fork tapping it but nothing. I'm starting to be really worried. I worked all day yesterday and this morning so I didn't have time to go looking for her until now. Any advice?

I also have a female indoor cat and she went missing once. She returned 2 days later. I guess sometimes they are having so much fun outside that they take a few days holiday, but cats have a good sense of orientation, I'm very sure she will be back. Also try to call her by her name, I don't know how safe is your neighborhood but leave a window slightly open in case she returns and you're not home. When my cat returned I was not home and I forgot to leave anything open, so when I got home she was at the back door calling for me.

Yeah I've had a cat escape before, and he came back after a few days. I did the same things you are doing. I went looking for him, I kept food out and I asked the neighbours. I was about 11 when this happened, so I was in tears. A friend and I also put pictures up around the neighbourhood. You should warn neighbours though if they see her not to approach her to fast if she is timid, otherwise she is going to run off again. That happened with my cat, he might have come home sooner, but one of the other neighbourhood kids tried to catch him once he saw him. We lived near woods, so he went back into the woods again. So I just asked them that next time they saw my cat to just let me know whereabouts. This is way back before everyone had a cell phone, so it isn't like I could get a text right away. But if you have one, at least a neighbour can text you if they see the cat.

Eventually my cat ended up on the porch and eating the food. As soon as I opened the front door, he ran in. Unfortunately he loved outside too much, so as soon as I or anyone else opened the doors, he would try to escape. So once you get your cat back, you might have to watch for that.

This happened to me as well. One of my cats, when she was still pretty young, escaped when I was out of town (and had left her with my roommates). My roomates were distraught -- they called me the next morning when she had already been gone for over 12 hours, overnight. They had apparently gone out looking, with flashlights, calling her, all over the neighborhood -- nothing. When one of them called me to let me know, she was crying on the phone, she felt SO bad. I was upset, but they said they'd continue to look. Later that day or the next morning (I can't remember which) she was crying loudly at the front door -- she had been gone for over 24 hours. I have a feeling she was close by all along, probably in a tree or hiding under a bush or someone's car.

Cats are very smart, but they also scare easily, so chances are good that she's hiding somewhere. OR...someone might have found her. That's why it's a good idea to put some fliers out, with a picture on them, and to knock at surrounding neighbors' doors and see if anyone found her.

I have a feeling she'll be back. Try not to worry too much yet.
