ButtonsSequins
I grew up in a very religious household/town. Most of my friends are hard-core Christians. I've turned away from that. I'm in school, but it's a community college. I'm not working and currently live at home because of that. How do I meet people in such a small town who aren't religious, or not keeping it a secret because they're afraid of what others will think of them? Link to comment

I think that is the most likely place you will find what you are looking for. OP, just a caveat. Religious views are not allowed to be discussed on this site. Just so other posters don't get infractions for posting on that subject, I want to point that out because I can see how this thread can take a direction of arguing different viewpoints in regards to religion. I see that you are new to the site, so it is very possible you were not aware of this rule..... Link to comment
NeverGoingBack
More and more people are realizing that there's no reason to believe in a God, and this is becoming a problem in society. Religious people call atheists strident and shrill, but it's really the other way around. You have nothing to worry about. You don't even have to bring it up if you don't want to. If someone asks you to do something or say something that you don't want to, or don't believe in, then don't. You don't have to be impolite. You just have to say that you don't have any reason to believe in a God, and therefore you don't. If they probe you, ask them what they're claiming and ask them to come back to you with evidence for their religious claims. You don't need to go further than that. As for meeting people who aren't religious, you could try online and see if there's a community of people based near where you live who don't believe in an imaginary friend who created the universe but who also cares about gay people's sex lives -- but I suspect that a LOT of people who you think are religious are in the same boat as you. They just haven't come "out of the closet" yet. Just live your life and don't let it be a problem for you... Link to comment

Seraphim
Rule #14. Threads on Religion and Politics that are posted simply for purposes of debate, proselytizing or similar purposes will not be permitted on this forum. Posts about these issues when they affect relationships will still be allowed but they must be relevant and not simply posted for argument or debate I see this as a legit question but there is proselytizing already, that is why they get closed.
