Sunny1607307996
Personally, I would call your local vet hospital and ask for recommendations for a trainer. A fear biter is a serious issue, and in my opinion you'll probably need a few sessions with a professional to get you on the right track. link removed link removed These websites had some useful information, but honestly I would still contact a professional. Where did you get the dog from? Do you know anything about its history? Did it bite you, or did you just hear that it was a biter? What breed is it? Has he been neutered? Link to comment
abitbroken
A dog usually doesn't bite spontaneously even if they are a fear biter. Fear biters bite when they feel overwhelmed, cornered, or threatened - AFRAID. A fear biter just has different or more sensitive triggers and fear biters are usually nippers. So you have to pay attention to why your dog is overly afraid or startled. If you JUST adopted the dog, every dog needs time to adjust to their new home. Its really stressful sometimes to all the sudden be in a new place. And everyone wants to come over and pet your new dog and get in their face. I would crate train the dog and make sure you keep the crate as the dog's safe little cave that they can go to - with a nice blanket, etc, and in a low traffic area. When a lot of people are over, they have some place to escape. Also, when you go to obedience classes and eventually agility classes, it gives your dog confidence in general and it helps with a fear biter. Also, I would encourage people to let the dog come to them instead of vice versa. Also, if your dog appears to react all the time to something in particular - a certain person, a certain gesture, certain noises - try to eliminate that thing and then reintroduce it slowly if it is something that is actually positive and reward the dog with praise for being calm. Also, if you are not calm, it travels down the leash. Link to comment
