Resting heart rate is also different for women than it is for men and it also makes a difference depending on what shape you are in.Resting heart rate of 50 to 60 is more like a professional athlete for MEN.My husband has a resting rate of 62 but he is in tip top shape. Average resting heart rate for women is between 70-78. That is if you are healthy.Going over 100 won't hurt you at all considering you are supposed to be over that when exercising. Exercising mine easily goes over 150, it is not dangerous till you get over 180. Target heart rate is by your age and weight and your general physical shape. However if it is from cigs it is better to not smoke.

I'm actually in pretty damn good shape considering I smoke. My fitness tests rated much better than the average population, including lung capacity, leg power, etc. You're right, 50 is basically female near elite distance runners.

Going over 100 will hurt you, if it's from the wrong reasons as you said. When your heart is struggling, during exercise it will reach peak much faster and you're at a much higher risk of an infarction if you push yourself too much. Heart failure is no fun.

Edit: Just checked, 68 resting. After a cpl smokes and coffee. I'm amazing! haha, jokes.

^^ It also changes with age. My husband has a really good rate of 62 and he is 42 years old which is rated at excellent. On his last medical they said he had the stats of a 20 year old, but he is a professional soldier. Not everyone is athletic though. I also have a genetic tachycardia so mine is abnormally fast even resting, plus my lungs only work at about 80% capacity. So that all reflects in my resting and exercising rate. but overall for a normally healthy woman it is about 73 to 78 or 80 resting rate.

This sounds like my friend who has heart palpitations. He can't smoke cigarettes, weed, or drink alcohol anymore due to it making his heart beat very rapidly and has even put him in the hospital before. He says stress triggers it also. I don't know a lot about it besides what I've heard from him but this sounds similar. I may be wrong, but if it gets more serious I would see a doctor
