sherryberrypie
I have set a goal for myself to lose my stomach fat by my birthday on August 24. Each day, I will exercise in some form- be it a walk, a jog, a dvd, etc... I am also logging what I eat, and setting new goals for each day. I was thinking that others who also lack a "real world" support system can come here and share what they are doing. I'll start. Today was day one. I grabbed my ipod and fast walked for about 30 mins, and then jogged up my street in starts and stops. Tomorrow's goal is to not stop. After work I am going to go to the gym to do about 30 mins of weights. Link to comment
Blue Skittles
I'll join in! Where in B.C. are you? I'm currrently visiting my family in BC but am living in Alberta. There is absolutely NOTHING to do around here and my parents are busy working so all i do is go for walks all day long. Already went for 2 today! I've also limited my eating - I'm not on any kind of diet, just doing the moderation thing. Link to comment
finallystrong
I want to be a part of this.... I didn't get much sleep last night, so when I get home from work I will probably sleep. Is it ok if I start tomorrow? Link to comment
sherryberrypie
I'm on Vancouver Island, thank goodness! I find the prairies to be so boring in the summer. Too hot and dry for my liking... Finallystrong, of course you can start tomorrow. But I promise you that if you went for a short walk today you will feel great. Link to comment
finallystrong
Finallystrong, of course you can start tomorrow. But I promise you that if you went for a short walk today you will feel great. I'm so tired though! I went to bed at 5 and woke up at 7, and have to work 8 hours. I'm almost done, and I can't wait to go home in my BED! TOMORROW, it shall begin! I will go to the gym in the morning. Drinks lots of water. Another thing I need to start doing is brushing my teeth more. I only brush once or twice a day. I need to floss more too. Lets get healthy friends! Link to comment
laboheme
I love the spirit! And great points about not going on a diet but doing the whole "moderation" thing instead, drinking lots of water, etc. I'm at the office for 8+ hours a day, and having a glass of water by my side is such a great way to prevent myself from snacking! Maybe my goal should be...being able to take the stairs to the 37th floor by the end of the summer? Link to comment
sherryberrypie
BF ordered pizza hut for dinner tonight. Not even just A pizza, but wings and the alfredo pasta. Ahhhhh my god man, are you trying to kill me?! I'm not going to eat it. On my break at work I bought some greek salad which turned out to be rotten. All the deli had otherwise were pasta/potato salads, so I chose a sweet potato and yam salad...seemed like a semi-healthy option. Link to comment
sherryberrypie
So? How did we all do today? I went for a walk/run this morning and a short walk later on after work. I ate some pizza crusts (oops) Link to comment
90_hour_sleep
i agree...let's drink to it Link to comment

Dracia
I want to lose 10 lbs, but the thing is, when I moderate what I eat or eat healthier (i.e. un-fattening foods) my stomach rumbles so loudly that it's embarrassing. I can't sit at work and make rumbly noises all day! Especially in meetings. So I need to find some kind of food that's healthy and will shut my system up! And by the way, good luck with everybody reaching their weight loss goals Link to comment

And by the way, good luck with everybody reaching their weight loss goals Hey! This happens to me all the time too! I think what is more important is what type of calories you are eating not how many (the how many will go down if you are fulller longer!). Try eating a super high protein breakfast. I usually go for an egg, 3 strips of bacon, hunk of cheese (I love cheeese), OJ juice with calcium and on the way out the door I'm stuffing myself with some yogurt. I do research in a lab from 8am-5pm and before I did this my stomach will start rumbling by 11am! Not only can I make it to lunch without the rumbling but I also tend to eat less lunch which is always a plus because there aren't really good healthy options unless you order but that gets expensive if you do it everyday. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have a protein bar with me. Most of the time I never eat it but if I have to go to a meeting and for some reason I'm starving, I just take two bites. Only reason why i say protein bar is because it's portable/non-smelly/doesn't go bad if you leave in your bag for a month You can also try a high protein morning shake. Also try adding coconut oil to your diet. And don't forget about snacks! I try to chose food with a low glycemic index (basically how fast our body is going to convert that food into sugar and cause your insulin to go up) because insulin is one of the main culprits in adding weight, especially belly fat. PLEASE DONT EAT CEREAL IN THE MORNING! Link to comment
gingerlemon
Good thread. I'm going to stop eating crisps all the time and walk either to work or back from work every day (that's appr. 45 min walk). And in September I'm joining the gym again. Link to comment
sherryberrypie
Yes just the crusts hahaha. Bf doesn't eat the crusts... Good for you guys. Welcome, gingerlemon! I agree, cereal is useless. I mostly just buy it now for the bf because he likes to eat it at night. For breakfast I like to have frozen entrees. Superstore has a blue menu variety and they're delicious and so low cal, but they keep me full for the majority of the day if I pair it with a piece of fruit. Whatever you do, don't gulp down a giant berry smoothie (I basically blended frozen berries, water, and some honey together) Gave me the dumps for two days! Sorry if tmi, but it makes it hard to go for a jog!! lol Link to comment
Firiel
I'll join! I was out of town at a wedding all weekend, and I ate soooo much. I'm really excited to get back to healthier eating and back to running. Just ran a mile, and I'm waiting for my husband to wake up so we can go for our planned 2.5 mile run. Link to comment
Saffron_
The cardio trainer app for android is brilliant if you're keen on getting healthy. I go out walking every day and at the end of my workout it tells me the distance I've done, how many calories I've burned and it lets me share it to FB and twitter..if I want! There are different settings depending on the activity you're doing but I just use mine for walking. Also, the calories you've burned show up on a little tab at the top of your phone which for me is a great motivator! I'm up to 2000 now (calories burned in the last 7 days). Link to comment
sherryberrypie
I feel like I'm doing very well! Already my pants are fitting better, which is such a huge relief. Link to comment
Blue Skittles
Well, since I broke up with my ex in June, I stopped eating so much, and got off the ice cream bandwagon. I'm doing a lot of walking. My pants are looser, I'm fitting into my little sister's clothes (and she has an awesome body), and the scale says I've lost 5 pounds. However, it is a different scale than the one I usually measure myself on so I don't know how accurate that is. Link to comment
sherryberrypie
Do you miss ice cream? I don't! I like freezies Congrats on your progress so far! Link to comment
Firiel
Just finished a five mile run with my husband! He's had knee problems in the past, so I hope his knees hold up for our half-marathon training. More importantly, I hope if they start to hurt he takes steps to prevent damage and doesn't wreck them more! Link to comment
sherryberrypie
you two must be BUFF Link to comment
Firiel
Ha ha... we're getting there! I would need about ten more pounds of muscle before I could be buff, and he needs to lose another 25 pounds or so before he'd be considered buff. We'll meet in the middle, maybe. Link to comment
sherryberrypie
Had a cheat day today. Chinese buffet. mmmmm Link to comment
newmother1
why is cereal bad in the morning? i've been eating cereal in the mornings in the hopes of loosing weight and its such a bummer to hear i've basically been wasting my time. p.s the post about the protein breakfast is great instead of cheese can i do baked beans instead as i am not a cheese fan and do you have other food tips? i have been trying to loose ten pounds for the last month but i am well and truly stuck i go to the gym about 3 times a week for an hr Link to comment
sherryberrypie
Doesn't keep you full, that's all. It's the two week mark today. How are we doing? I kind of liked what I saw in the mirror this morning! This week hasn't been as productive or healthy as the first...life gets complicated...but portion control is still there. Going to go for a quick jog now and will do some strength training at the gym after work. Link to comment
