Is it really all that important to get your haircut every 6-8 weeks? At the rate salons charge I would rather be 50 dollars richer every month. I haven't even bothered cutting my hair at all because it doesn't look unhealthy to me.

Are expensive beauty products really all that necessary?

I go once every three - four months, and I found a reasonably priced salon ($80 for cut, highlights and style). I don't bother with the expensive beauty products, I mean yeah, they are ok, but I find herbal essences works just as good, so I buy that. I'm sure some gals would completely disagree with me, but I like to keep things simple and not spend a fortune on my appearance.

Okay, I'm the woman who is terribly vain about her hair and I look like it. I have my hair cut in a very fashionable short bob. My hair grows very fast so, yes, I get it cut every six to eight weeks. If I don't, the cut doesn't look "right". I ONLY use Paul Mitchell products on my hair, and yes, you can tell the difference. When I use store shampoos, my hair looks dull and kind of dry. With PM products, my hair is sleek and shiny like the girls on the commercials. I swear by Paul Mitchell!

Well my hair is getting close to my hips and I cut it myself. Since I have a "U" shaped hemline it isn't hard at all. As far as time between cuts though it really depends on your hair type. If your hair is strong and you don't dye/perm/or heat style often there is really no reason to need a cut more often than every 3 months other than to maintain a style. Some people can go longer.

For products I use Trader Joe's Nourishing Spa which is cheap and gentle and also VO5 kiwi lime conditioner which works well for me. I also use ojon jojoba oil and extra virgin olive oil for hair treatments. Everything is cheap and makes my hair shiny. There are other tricks for that as well

Using these things I will show you a pic of my hair.. just a sec.

I did it for the lolz. Don't worry I don't hate my nose or anything like that. I won't derail the thread anymore though.. sorry!

I guess some people need to cut their hair that often to maintain a style, or they like visiting the salon, or they have the money to spend. Even though I love the feeling of the hairdresser washing my hair, I don't have that money to spend. I just spend about $16 at Supercuts once, maybe twice, a year. I usually let my hair get kind of long, cut it short, and then let it grow again.

not at all.

i have pretty long hair (to my lower back). i get it cut when it starts to "change". like, it will start getting knotty very easily. im blessed to have naturally great hair; i never style it. just wash it and let it do its thing. i get it cut about every 3 or 4 months. now i suppose if you have a hair cut that needs a lot of styling... then youd prob have to go more often.

I get mine cut every 3-4 months and my stylist said that is plenty. I have extremely thick lush hair. I think 6-8 weeks can be overkill. It also depends on your hairstyle. People with longer hair can get away with spacing it out more versus someone with a pixie cut that may need to get it touched up more often.

  • 2 weeks later...

your hair isn't a plant so cutting it won't make it thicker but getting a trim every 3 month is good so the split ends damage your hair. I would buy treatments ( I like the placenta one I get from amazon) and use that every week to keep your hair nice and healthy

I cut it every 3-6 months because I am a lazy person. It also depends on how much you process your hair with blow dryers and straighteners. If you don't use them, then there is no need to get your hair cut every 6 weeks unless you have a very short hair style.

This. And I was told by a hairdresser that if you want to grow your hair then getting it cut every 6-8 weeks kind of defeats the object! I get mine cut every 4-6 months or so depending on how much I've thrashed the ghd's.

I get mine cut every 7-8 weeks because it's long -- a few inches below my bra strap -- and it's very fine (though I have a ton of it, so it looks thick). It tends to get damaged on the ends because I do use a hairdryer and/or curling iron often. So, I get an inch or so cut off every two months or so to get rid of split ends. My stylist charges an arm and a leg for that, too. I hate it, but she does a great job, and I've been going to her forever, so I really trust her.

As for shampoos and products -- I've used expensive ones, like Nexus, and found that they don't make my hair look any better than say, Aussie products, which cost significantly less ($6.99 or so for a 125-use bottle!) I also wash my hair with Johnson's Baby Shampoo sometimes (to get rid of styling product buildup) and I use leave-in treatments like coconut oil ones to protect it from heat styling.
