Hi guys,

my doctor has said i should go on the mini pill now called POP , she said it might give me irregular periods , anyone here is on it and have u had any side effects?? I'd appreciate advise on it, please.

Oh...is it as reliable as the normal pill??

There should be information that came with your brand of progestin only pill, in a leaflet, that will show the exact percentage of effectiveness that brand showed during the clinical study of the drug itself. In general they are deemed as effective and reliable as tradional birth control pills, but with the progestin only pill you are more likely to get pregnant if you don't take the pill at the same time every day. So you have to be very careful about human error and taking it the same time daily or you will be putting yourself at increased risk for pregnancy.

 

I was on it for a short time in the past (6 months or so) and didn't notice any side effects other than spotting. Right after I stopped that pill I got the Mirena IUD which also contains progestin (only).
