After interview... don't know what to think about it

Recommended Posts

I have had an interview at this company for position A.The company is an affiliated company for a bigger company and they moved their office in my area. It's an IT company and they have vacancies for differnt type of jobs. One fit my description (systems/ network technician) so I sent my cv and they called me for an interview about 2 weeks later. The interview was really last minute, one of the managers was going on vacation (1 week). The hr person was really pushing for the same day interview, i really wasnt sure if it was a wise thing to do ( no preparations whatsoever) but just decided to bite the bullet and jump in.

I hustled at work and with the hr person to go after my work shift. The managers stayed an extra hour i believe, I had googled their names it and found a description of their fields and what they do. I had a clue of what to expect from each one of them, 1 would be more people oriented (how do you fit in the company, expectations, goals bla bla) and the other one more technical ( network oriented). My predictions were true, the technical person hammered with network technical questions which i aced, the system admin question were ok, no major * * * * up but not wonderful.

I often blamed myself, my gf too (damn..lol) for not being energetic, enthusiast, passionate about certain things in life, job interviews being one of them...but with all the rushing i guess i was pumped and showed a lot of energy than i do normally which is a good thing because they commented positively on it.

Now this is where it becomes blury. They found that i had a really strong network knowledge and with the position i currently have at my job (sys/network admin), I would be more suited for a senior network admin position. I personally do not care about the naming convention as long as the job itself and $$$ are better and more what i want in life. The position they offered is not opened yet and will be available within the next weeks ..how long they are not sure but it should not be long.

The overall impression i had with the interview was that i gave a strong interview, the managers also said i had a really strong interview and after i was done with them they introduced me to the HR person who gave me details about the other job. Finally she showed me around and said would be calling me.

I dont know what to think about the whole thing... in my past experience twice i have been shown around after the intervew and those two times i had an offer not long after.

I had the interview at 6 and today is thursday, even for a normal interview, there is a buffer period of two weeks so that the company does 'their thing' , but with this whole situation.. it could possibly be up to three weeks.

I did not sent any thank you letter/ i gave up on those i used to do it before but i have never been able to say 'it helped me in landing the job' so nowdays i go in and give it my all.. i say all the things i would have said in a letter and just leave it at that.

I just reviewed the job itself and feel like i should have done more, or at least gave a stronger impression on the systems admin side but it doesnt really matter now... what vibes are you guys getting from this

I'd say you'll be getting the job offer for the senior position -- they interviewed you, liked you as a candidate, and then realized you'd be better slotted somewhere else. So --- write the thank you note! I've always done that, and have been later told that (by senior mgmnt) that it's considered a classy move, regardless of whether you get the job. However, in this case, it appears that they are actively looking to place you, so your enthusiasm would clearly be noted.

Focus on the people you talked to -- bring up a point or two of something they told you about. If you think you're more suited for the second job (the one that you didn't really apply for) mention that. Tell them you are interested, enthusiastic and look forward to hearing from them.

ok, i sent it in... I basically thank them for their time and that the interview re-affirmed my interest in the company and working with them. The HR girl responded promptly (within the hour and said my candidacy is interesting for them) she would get back to me within a week. This was last Friday.

I really have no idea what's going on in the head of the Hr girl, she seems really enthusiastic, positive but as for the ' deliverables ', it doesn't seems to get anywhere, if within 2 weeks of the interview i don't hear anything ...i think its just best for me to move on ...

what do you guys think
