Work rant

Recommended Posts

I wish I could change my job.this one is absolutely killing me.I find accounting so boring I cannot find words to properly describe what effect that job has on me. Also I am quite an honest person, rules/law obeying one which is unfortunately not high listed trait in my country in case you work in accounting-or anywhere else to be honest.my boss steals big time (uses company money for private purposes by simply taking money without backing it up with needed documents and by buying different things for his private home by billing it on the company). On top of that my salary is constantly late and part of it is under the table as we say it (yes thats formally not allowed over here but a lot of employers do it since irs kinda ignores it). He even keeps getting loans from a bank based on personal connections despite the fact financial statements are one huge red flag and no one in their right mind after reading them should finance the company.I cannot quit because it's quite impossible to get a job around here. According to the latest statistic data we have 20% unemployment rate without signs of improving. I am going mental.

I have a job that is boring as hell, that doesn't regularly pay, and on top of it salaries have been reduced recently.ooh and lets not forget-my boss is a bloody thief.

Oh how lovely. After 4 years of being a member the only answer I get is from some advertising idiot. I'll have to start writing threads in more pathetic way to attract attention in the future. Maybe I should proclaim I want to kill myself over this job situation (no, not really). On the serious note this is epic fail and a proof that such threads as mine, should be, in the future, written on boards that are not about brake ups.

In this day and age, there's no reason why we have to work in jobs we hate. You have the power to make changes. In your case, if you hate your field but can't quit because of employment rates, etc., keep working but ... on the side, don't do nothing. Use the time to develop an escape plan. This won't happen overnight but if you do nothing, then you won't progress. Find out what you really want to do (this I'm sure you can spend time doing after work). Then start getting the education if extra training is required to make yourself qualified in the fields that you really want to work in. That's what many are doing even though it's a long road, but at least they will progress.

Once they are qualified, they can make the jump. As for the employment rates, you should keep the option of relocating. Again, many people are willing to do this and that's why they are able to progress. So it's a matter of what you are willing to do about your situation. Nobody can change that for you except yourself and you have the power to do that.

I can't educate myself in desired field because there are no uni programmes I'm interested in that can be combined with working. Also with huge unemployment rates it's impossible to find a part time job that might make it possible to juggle studying with working.also there are no online universities over here or any kind of shorter education which might help me.I also cannot relocate because unemployment rates are like this anywhere I go in this country. salaries are not the best, so even if I had luck with changing a job I wouldn't be able to make ends meet in a place I don't own my own apartment in like I do now. We mostly inherit our apartments.I wouldn't be able to buy one on my own our to survive with renting one. I have masters in international exchange and my salary is 800 dollars per month.

I realize that it's frustrating but on the other hand, you do have a master's degree. What that tells me is that you are educated and have the ability to research out feasible solutions to problems. Use that research ability to make it work for you. If you can't go through the front door, it is up to you to find the back doors. Surely, there must be a few individuals either currently still in your country or perhaps others who did successfully make it outside elsewhere. It is up to you to connect with them and pick their brain on how they did it.

Hey, for what it's worth, I saw your post a few days ago and wanted to answer but I honestly just didn't know what to say.

I mean, like you said, unemployment rates are sky-high these days so a lot of people are in your shoes (myself included.) My survival tactic has been frequent vacations (even just a weekend trip with the bf every now and then,) frequent job hunting (no matter how fruitless) and reminding myself that things always always ALWAYS get better (even if sometimes they get worse first.)

Sorry my advice is so useless...but just wanted you to know you're not alone. And people are reading.

I just now saw your post, Siriana. Of course I have nothing helpful to add anyway...except I adore your avatar.

I'll bet hardly anyone else saw this either. I'm not here as much as I used to be, so unless a post gets a lot of activity I will probably miss it.

Hard to believe with a master's degree you are struggling so much. I know you are a very intelligent and good girl and wish you every bit of luck that you deserve.

I will tell you something. My husband just went on a work trip and had a manager explain to him very simply and clearly that he is stealing from the customers. Imagine that. Left my husband in quite a predicament, didn't he?

Hey Siriana I saw your post as well but was stumped as to what advice to give! haha Not to mention my moms an accountant and I know all about the, er, fudging of numbers. =p Have you looked at finding a job overseas? Not sure you really want to leave home though. The world economy is such a crap-shoot these days. I'm sure where one can go and feel really secure. Anyhoo, guess I'd say keep that job and an eye open for other options. I'd think overseas is a real option with your smarts, education, and work experience, if you'd want to leave home. Tough one!

doggyt - roofing down south in the summer. OUCH. hehe
