I understand it is depending on the situation

My thoughts are LTR has the "greater" emotional attachement

but is also exhausted in some cases

STR dont have a strong emotional attachment

but are still fresh that there could be improvements.

People try again because of a strong emotional attraction/attachment. Reconciliations aren't easy, so why put in the effort unless you are invested?
