New guy keeps mentioning various ex girlfriends

I've just started seeing this new guy. I've noticed he will mention ex's a lot. He will relate conversations back to ex's or tell me stories about stuff he has done with ex's. I thought maybe he likes talking about the past so I should disclose a little of my past and so when I mentioned a few stories here and there about my ex's he said "why do you keep bringing up your ex boyfriends?" i can't tell if why he keeps mentioning them. It is never one in particular, it is sometimes girls he's just hooked up with, dated casually and long-term.

That would annoy me, but he may just not know any better. When he asked you that, why didn't you ask him the same thing?

See I do this, but I do it out of a way of communicating to the person that I wont tolerate the same behaviour from them if that makes sense.

YEAH why didn't you just answer him with ' em i keep bringing them up because YOU'VE been doing it for ages and i wanted to see if it would annoy you!!' because it kinda annoys me but i'm not sure you are aware if your doing it or not. just be honest!
