As I've posted in another thread...my ex and i are coworkers. We keep our encounters brief, friendly, and casual.

Last night, I received an email from him regarding giving his (consumable) gift to me. I know what it is and I've been waiting, wondering if he would still give it to me. And he wants to after almost over a month of no contact outside work.

In response to his email, here's what I want to say...please review and provide feedback. Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

I've been doing OK. How've you been?

Good to know that your classes are going well.

Remind me again why you promised you'd never call, please. I REALLY cannot remember!

When do you think your gift might expire? And how will I get it?

Thank you for still wanting to share with me. Are you expecting anything in return?

Definitely don't ask if he's expecting anything in return. If you want to get him something later that's great but if not then just keep quiet about it.

I also wouldn't ask when it will expire, as that sounds like you only value the gift for its use, while ideally you'd also value the thought and the gesture. Just ask how he wants to get it to you. Offer to pick it up, If it expires quickly then he will probably rush to make sure you have it.

Also, the reminder about why he said he'd never call probably isn't necessary, if I were you I'd just let that go for now. If he wants to call he will, if not you can call him or let it be.

Hope this is helpful + sorry I ended up with so many suggestions!
