How do i let him know im interested-im a shy girl

Ok heres the thing,i like this guy who comes to my gym,he shows me alot of eye contact and sometimes he will even smile at me. Once he smiled and waved to me before he left for gym. I wonder why he hasnt approached me yet or even said hi,i dont even know what the guy sounds like and dont know his name. Everytime i see him at gym i feel anxious,excited and my knees go weak. He pretends as if im the only girl in the gym. I am so shy and i think he knows it coz i end up blushing when he looks at me. I dont know why he hasnt come up to me and maybe hes taken or something. I have smiled at him back when he smiles at me and ill even look at him too. I want to know what more can i do to show him i like him. Ive tried struggling to change a weight level of a machine and looked at him like "come help me" but all he did was look at me and the machine so then i gave up and tried something else out. I want to try "forgetting" my water bottle or towel so that maybe just maybe he will return it to me but i havent seen him at gym lately. Also the other day i was driving to work and then it was traffic and the cars stop rather close by on the side..and i can see someone looking at me from the corner of my eye and i turn and look and see my crush. He looked at me and i pretended not to see him. Then he puts his hand to the side of the face as if hes trying to hide his face..that was weird,why would he so that? ANd he was the only person in the car so not sure why he would look at me then cover his face This guy has got me confused coz at gym his eyes are on me and even theres someone blocking his way ,he will strain just to take a glance at me..

Imo i think he maybe waiting for you to make the first move, i'm shy and i know how you feel when it comes to being attracted to someone. Maybe the reason why he is holding back and hiding his face is because he is shy too? maybe he is to shy to make the first move? just make small talk with him like 'hi, how are you?' if you really want to talk to him then go for it girl!
