sherryberrypie
My neck has been kinked for a few days now and I've had a constant headache.. I've tried stretching, sleeping flat on my back, sleeping without a pillow, taking ibuprofen, you name it. It's driving me crazy! What type of pillow would be best to use (I'm a side/stomach sleeper and always wind up with my arms crossed under my head).
petite
I've heard that latex foam pillows are the best, so I got those. It takes a few nights to get used to them, but right now I can't imagine not sleeping on one. They are usually a bit more expensive than the normal pillows you can get for $30-40, but they are definitely worth it.
RainDrop 2911
are you sure its from how you've been sleeping ? could it possibly be from any unusual exercise you've done lately, activity you don't usually do, etc. ? Sometimes if you use muscles that you aren't used to using, you can feel kinked or sore in your muscles for a few days. as to the headache that could be irrelevant to the sore neck and shoulders and you just need to get better sleep. (maybe you're having bad sleep due to sore neck)...?
lucyblue10
I'm also a stomach sleeper and find it hard to sleep in any other position. Like you, a while ago I began to suffer with stiff shoulders and neck when sleeping. What helped with this was buying a memory foam pillow. Though as other have said it takes a week or so to get used to it. Sometimes I alternate between that and an ordinary pillow. Lately I've been suffering really bad lower back pain on waking, and I read that stomach sleeping is not really a good position to sleep in as it puts a lot of pressure on the neck, lumbar region and calves of the legs. One website suggests it's better to sleep without a pillow at all, or to raise your hips with a pillow when sleeping to reduce pressure. Apparently it is possible to buy a pillow designed specially for stomach sleepers link removed but I haven't tried this. Another problem might be your bed is too soft and you're stretching your neck when sleeping, so a lower, softer pillow might help.
sidehop
I'd find out the cause of the kink, it could be from your shoulders and other parts of your body. If it wasn't from a major injury or an accident you probably pulled a muscle but definitely get it checked out first. You could also try hot bath + menthol type of rub before going to bed. There really is no universal pillow for side sleepers either as the distance from your shoulder & head differ between people. I'm a side sleeper and use a thicker tempur-pedic pillow. You could also try a body pillow in conjunction as you'll have better support for your body.
sherryberrypie
I tried using a fluffy, mushable pillow last night and used a massager on my neck before I went to sleep. I also tried really hard to sleep on my back, but in the morning I woke up on my stomach again. I feel like I need to cage myself in or something! It's finally starting to feel a little bit better (no IBUpfrofen today!) but when I turn my neck side to side it crackles. Grosses me out. I'm seeing my doctor soon, so I will ask him. The_Seeker
Go to Walgreens, and get Tiger Palm. I believe it's near that's for joints and muscle pain. link removed Or you can go buy Vicks' Vapor Rub. They smell the same thing and performs the same thing. Just use it on your back, neck, and shoulders. You'll feel the burn and so much better. =]
