Fear of flying

Since I can remember, I have had a fear of flying. I've only been on three trips my entire life that involved air travel and I've been extremely nervous and stressed out on them all. I fear that the plane is going to crash and I won't have any control over anything. I know it sounds silly, and I know planes are the safest mode of transportation, but I still can't shake my fears. Every time there's a bump I feel like that's it, my life is over, this plane is going down.

The biggest issue is several of my friends are going on these great vacations, and I'd love to go with them but I find myself finding reasons not to go because I don't want to get on a plane. I could also suck it up and just put up with the flight but I find myself stressing out up until the trip and the whole time on the trip. Not fun.

I don't know what any of you can do to help alleviate my fear, but I thought I'd post here anyways.

This is how I cured my fear of flying (which was severe!) I just started flying a lot. After about the third flight that I "survived", I realized that flying was safe and actually calmed down during turbulence. In my twenties I had a job that often required flying out of town, that got me to the point that I could sleep on flights or watch the movies and not worry about it. I have now flown close to 100 times and I'm still alive to write this! Flying is safe, very safe, and the more you fly, the more you will believe that. I freaked out on planes a couple of times and almost got taken off! If I can learn to relax about flying, anyone can!

i had been working as a cabin crew for about a half of a year. And i'd been making about 80-90 hours in the sky monthly. Some people have been working this kind of job for an age. And nobody's dead

Why don't you affraid to take a taxi but affaid to fly? There're much more chanses you can get crush by car than by plane.

SO! Go the trip and when you're in a plane look at cabine crew, perhaps that would be the second or the third flight in that day for them. Look how confident they are and be confident too))

Glad to her you got over your fear! I haven't been forced to travel anywhere for work so maybe once I am it will help me out as well.

It boggles my mind how people choose to work on a plane!

I really can't explain why I don't mind driving in taxis. I do however prefer to drive long distances rather than be a passenger in other peoples cars.

yes me too. And by the way the most "problem" at a plane that you cannot control the situation, so you're affraide. When you drive you can control so you're calm

But believe me, pilots have their families too and they wanna live not less than anybody else. They do control things perfectly from a plane and from the earth each plane are controlled by dozen dozens people more. Planes aren't a russian roullet or nooooobody works there

Haha, well that makes me feel better!

I'm more concerned with a plane having faulty repairs or just breaking down more than the pilot doing something wrong. It really is just a mental thing I need to get over.
