What am I doing here in Whisker City?

I am not a water person, not into beaches and loathe hot weather, lol! I just can't afford to move right now, plus I would fear not being able to find work (I work full time and have good benes).

It is just frustrating. So where is a good place for a nature-loving single person who hates hot weather and doesn't have much money?

Would you just up and leave if you weren't happy where you were at?

I did! hehe Remember I lived in N. Whisker City ( ) Have you looked around the Carolinas, maybe N. Georgia? (The mtns) The Pacific NW is amazing, and I've found not much more expensive. Lots of free/cheap things to do as there's so much outdoor things to do. It's never easy to pack up and leave a place but a lot of times it's the best thing you can do. Anyhoo, have you peeked around at places? Checked to see the job options in an area?

Well, then you are a brave one to just follow your heart like that...

Yeah, I've done some research. I'm really not too picky, but have ruled out the more expensive areas like New England and California. I have considered Georgia, as well as the Midwest.

How hot is too hot? I know I could never live in places like down south where it gets up in the 100's during summer with 100% humidity.

I guess it depends on anything specific you're looking for. I've lived in Seattle and now on the opposite side of the coast and both seem to offer wide variety of options for any outdoor people. Cost of living really depends on where you live and how you live.

A more temperate climate would be okay (like the Carolinas), but my favorite is cold weather. I love nature. Don't care about shopping or restaurants.

I did. I decided to leave Cleveland and move to San Francisco. Ten days later, I was there. I sublet my apartment, sold my furniture and car, put stuff in storage and I've never, ever regretted it, nine years later.

What about Portland, Misskitty? It's beautiful, urban-but-not-concrete-jungle, you do have the ocean but it's very subdued and rarely hot and cost of living is fantastic for the West Coast.

Yes, I would consider moving there....and you were very brave to leave like you did. I am afraid, I guess. Especially with the economy the way it is. I don't make much $$, but I do have a steady job with good benes. But at the same time I feel so out of place here.

At 22, it's not brave. At that age, you never believe you'll fail. If only we could all feel that way forever, we'd be so much happier.

i'll likely be presented with an option to move my position to Germany within 18 months, so I'm considering if I'll pick up and leave for a new adventure in Europe, so I empathize.
