renaissancewoman101
I have a cold or what could be the beginning of some kind of asthma/lung crap. At least today I don't have the "head in cave" feeling. Yay I am just sniffling and coughing a little bit (cough meds will take care of the cough). Throat is not really sore any more. My nose is a bit stuffy (but can breathe through nose) I hate getting sick since it is wrecking my exercise routine. Yesterday, despite being sick, I went swimming, but I was not swimming up to par. Despite that, I still pushed myself to swim. I have my trainer workout this afternoon. I don't want to miss it because I like exercising and I like my routine. For those of you who work out, do you still keep to your routine, despite being sick (but not deathly ill to be bedridden). My only concerns are my asthma. If it gets worse or anything like that, I will definitely NOT exercise and get myself to a doc.
Applewhite
I suggest taking a break. You need to heal. Just eat light and good things. Don't eat as much as you did when you were exercising. But eat healthy food with lots of vitamins.
annie24
what about a lighter workout like taking a walk? i often couple walks to errands. like instead of driving to the store to get some milk, walk. the extra weight on the way back i think makes the walking a bit tougher. renaissancewoman101
I dunno. I have my trainer workout today and still like to push myself. I find it funny that I feel so dedicated to this workout thing. Ugh, I hate getting sick.

renaissancewoman101
I know I can reschedule, it is just that I am hard on myself and want to work out. I feel if I miss exercising, it will be hard to get back to it. I'll email him and see.

renaissancewoman101
For those of you who exercise, when you do get sick, do you get upset that your routine was disturbed or changed?
Cognitive_Canine
I just feel sluggish during my workout. But, the next day I feel great and like I've improved so much. Same when I wear ankle weights. I beat myself up but then feel on fire the next day from joy. I would tell your trainer that you are an asthmatic and that you worry your sickness will cause a flare up. He should be aware of health concerns like this.
metrogirl
For those of you who exercise, when you do get sick, do you get upset that your routine was disturbed or changed? I get upset if my routine is broken and I'm not sick, so yes...... Now that I am exercising regularly, I don't like missing a scheduled day but I won't beat myself up over it. I will just make it up the next time I go and work that much harder.
penelope13
While being in the 'building up your muscle/ strength' phase I would not recommend to work out while you are sick since it puts on a lot more stress on your body. It's something different if you are a well oiled machine and it's already a routine for your body. Apart from being courteous to fellow people by not spreading around your germs. As to breaking your routine: yes, it's more of a challenge to have breaks and get back to it, but if you have mastered it, you know you are on the right way to make this a habit/ part of your new life style

ghost69
grab a small jug of orange juice and if your gym has a sauna, use it. go in there with your oj and sit there with your head down. let it all come out. takes about 30-45 mins and you will be back on track quick. BellaDonna
I have a cold or what could be the beginning of some kind of asthma/lung crap If it is in your lungs I don't think you should exert yourself until you are better. I've exercised when I've had minor sinus issues- but anything involving the lungs is a no go for me. If you have any body aches you should also take it easy. If you must exercise I agree with Annie that going for a walk in the fresh air is probably the best thing for you right now.
JonasWaingaro
For me the definer is fever or no fever (if you have a fever you are most likely contagious). If I have a fever I rest no matter what, with no fever - and if I feel up to it - I'll workout.
renaissancewoman101
I'm not sure what this is. For me, a common cold can quickly turn bad if it settles in my lungs (asthma can do this to you). I have the sniffles and a few coughs, nothing like chills or aches. I am a person of routine and when my routine gets broken it really annoys me, since I worry I won't go back to it or that when I go back to it, it will be harder on me. I really LOVE working out and what it has done for me, aka, improved my body and my demeanor and feelings. I love the rush I get from working out hard. I emailed my trainer and let him know that I am sick, but that I want to continue working out, but at a slower pace and if he thinks it is a good idea. I know yesterday I was not at my best, because I couldn't swim as well as I usually do. I was tired just by doing a HALF lap, instead of me doing a whole lap, resting a bit, and continuing. I have no fever right now, just a headache, sniffles and a small infrequent cough. I do know I can feel it in my lungs when I do cough.
renaissancewoman101
Trainer emailed me back. He says it is better to not exercise today and take a break since exercising, esp in the beginning, can temporarily hamper the immune system. I will resume exercising with him next Tues at our normal time. I guess taking a rest is a good thing. I just hope I am well enough tomorrow to do the scuba thing or else I will have to change to another class time. Ugh

And then take a nice long bath to try and clear your sinuses. Hope you feel better soon.

How's the job hunt going? Are you focusing more on the gym that looking for work? No offence; just curious. When you get a job you might not be able to go as much. I emailed him because I have a training session with him today. Job hunt is going ok. Got a few bites. Had interviews with 2 different places, but no go Unemployment is high out here, so getting 2 interviews at 2 different places was good. To me exercising helps me feel less discouraged about the job hunt. Otherwise, I would be really down on myself.

penelope13
Diving with a cold is a big no, no, since the cold interferes with your ability to adjust the pressure and thus could cause a lot of pain
renaissancewoman101
I didn't end up taking the scuba class on Friday due to some medical stuff. I haven't worked out since Wed (when I swam). I hope to be able to work out tomorrow or Monday. I don't like NOT working out for these many days.
