Mr. Rosewater
I learned that my Dad had emphysema about a year ago. He still smokes a pack and a half a day. He just suffered a mini-stroke while driving. His vision was blurred etc. What do most of you know about the odds of a person living much longer after these things if they continue to smoke? Of course they are very poor but I'm just wondering if any of you have had similar experiences. Link to comment
testcase
Well I don't know much about emphysema or quality of life with it. I do know a bit about smoking though. Smoking is so incredibly tough to quit but the hardest part is deciding you want to do it. Obviously at this point he knows he should quit. Maybe you could try to help convince him. I'd be willing to bet hes at a point where he feels its too late, but its never too late. I'm sorry I don't have more advice I do know people can live with emphysema and it is crucial to quit smoking asap if you have the disease. I'd be willing to bet hes scarred to quit. Which any smoker or former smoker can tell you it is scary thinking of life without smoking. Maybe he could try the medication to help. I know I was taking wellbutrin for a while and it made it real easy to quit smoking... you just don't need cigarettes while taking it. Link to comment
