Is this unusual for a child of 3?

Recommended Posts

If it's attention stuff, she'd be doing it to the dad (for attention) not the mother.

Thanks for your reply!

I don't speak with him, so my information is limited... but my friend and I talked about this yesterday & I know that at least twice the peeing incident has occurred at her father's house. Once, she climbed onto the couch and peed & once she peed in the bathtub & tried to splash around in it like a rain puddle! There's also the chance that it's occurred more often & he just hasn't mentioned it.

Mom suspects the problem might be that dad is giving her "time outs" when she wets her pants. My friend has always maintained that there should be no punishments when it comes to potty traing, just positive reinforcement. But the father apparently feels that now that they've been working on it for a yr. the child should be telling them when she needs to go. So I know it's something Mom's going to ask the Pediatrician's advice on next week & then it will be further discussed with dad.

The child isn't potty trained, so until she is, I recommend Pullups.

It's amazing to me that the parents will just let her ruin everything in the house when they can prevent that.

You're right except they do have the pull ups and use them often but they just aren't as secure as diapers. That and they can easily be pulled off by little fingers!

In addition, her mom feels that if she doesn't put her in big girl panties at least sometimes she won't ever learn how to wear them.

One of my son's had a serious illness right after he was potty trained. He was in the hospital on and off for half a year. So we had to put him back in diapers for a long time after that. He learned again eventually. I hate the smell of urine, ick.

I'm so glad to hear your son recovered!

I TOTALLY understand how you feel about the urine. I have to admit I don't know how her mom does it... I'd have put my house on the market at this point!

Thank you.

I do hope this child is not being abused in any way. The father seems to be naive to hand her off to people like this. Even when you hire a babysitter you take the risk of this, and it's a horrifying thought. I can understand you are concerned about the behavior.
