Notreadyet87 Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Not just that, but please get a heart rate monitor. As I was telling you before the calorie meter on those machines are skewed and you may not be burning as many calories as you think. A heart rate monitor will tell you how much calories you REALLY are burning and will allow you the opportunity to really track how much you need to eat to lose pounds. Also if your goal is to lose a 130 pounds(which is a ton) then something is off with the weight loss, generally bigger people lose weight faster early on--your weight loss is coming at a slow but healthy pace, but still doesn't seem normal compared to heavierset people who generally lost ten pounds within the first month and a half of diet and moderate exercise. It's good your upping your calories, changing your diet, and increasing cardio. Again be careful for burnout. I know right now you can't see that happening, but unless you plan on doing a 1.5 hour cardio plan 6 days out of the week for the next three years, then if I were you I would think about slightly reducing my cardio time to something more reasonable and doable over a long period of time, as well as giving yourself at least 2 days off. Good luck.
IGlareOften Posted May 4, 2010 Author Posted May 4, 2010 I've been doing that for 3 months now. If I was going to burn out, it would have happened already. I do write down everything I eat. I'm pretty diligent about that, so I know how much I'm eating. Diets such as south beach, WW and adkins are things that you have to do continuous to keep the weight off. If I quit that..hello weight. I've tried it. Perhaps I am exercising too much. I feel comfortable with it. I was just asking tips....thanks for caring enough to share, but I'll continue as long as I'm comfortable with it. My body is made to move. Whether I'm losing weight or not..if I stop exercising as much...I do gain weight. It's impossible for me to slow down my work outs...otherwise those three months of work FOR 10 pounds..would be pointless. I have a jacked up metabolism.
IGlareOften Posted May 4, 2010 Author Posted May 4, 2010 For all you peeps out there. And you ^...this is a picture of me to help understand what I'm talking about. link removed I'm 5'11...and I wear a size 20. I'm not totally comfortable putting my weight up here..but you can guess fairly easily. This picture is pretty interesting. I guess I haven't really been looking at how I've lost weight. I've been losing inches not weight. Inches are more important, I'm sure. I'll just have to suck it up and stay diligent. I'll try some different stuff and see what happens.
boringgirl Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I would definitely get checked for a hormone imbalance if I were you. I had the same problem, low calorie intake, plenty of exercise and I was only getting fatter! Turns out I have poly cystic ovaries. You may have something similar or thyroid/insulan problems. Better to find out for sure either way.

Better to find out for sure either way. I'll have to check out the poly cystic thing. No thyroid issues. I had it checked less than a year ago. No insulin issues either. My mom has diabetes...so I'm pretty diligent about checking my sugar. I check it sporadically....after certain meals to make sure my body is dealing with sugar ok. I don't want to have diabetes. Anyway, suffice to say it's fine.
generaldiscord Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 INCHES NOT WEIGHT. Especially since you're working out alot. Your weight does a bad job of telling you how much fat you've lost if you're gaining muscle. Whatever you do, don't starve yourself. Yes, it might take you more than a year to reach your goal, but chances are, if you do the starvation thing, in a year you'll have MORE weight than you do now. I say this as a person who yo-yo'd my way through my teens. I saw your picture, you look nice! You look pretty fit, and your posture is great. I can't see how you could possibly loose 140 pounds. You look the same way I did when I was 200, and I've always been heavy for my size. Let's say, in half a year you've lost 4*6= 24 pounds of fat, while at the same time converting some of the rest of your fat into (heavier) muscle. Take a look at 24 pounds of butter, it's actually a pretty big volume, and you will have lost even more than that, again, because of the muscle thing. Don't get discouraged by the weight... Think of the volume you will have lost in just 6 months! One last thing, the more muscle you have, the more energy your body burns just to maintain it. So, if you're one of the few people who can cultivate an enjoyment of fitness, you will most likely see your weightloss increase as you go along, instead of decrease.
generaldiscord Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Oh, and I should add, when I hit the big 200, I made the decision not to weigh myself, starve myself, or punish myself for not being skinny. I never actually got into cardio or weight lifting regimes, because I don't have nearly enough discipline for that. I had a summer job in construction, and I started dancing. I stopped driving for different reasons, and I started running or walking to wherever I needed to go. Basically, I am working out several hours every day, but not calling it that in my head. Like I said, I'm still a pound away from being "obese" every time I'm weighed at the doctors. I also wear anywhere between a 2 and a 8 in dresses, and have a pretty consistent 6-8 size pants (american sizes). I feel great, and some people even think I look great. Weight is really not everything.
IGlareOften Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 Thanks so so so much for your feedback. It's nice to hear people's personal stories. It helps me to understand why they're saying what they are. I am trying to be a little more patient and understanding of my body. I do have a goal for this summer on how long and much I'll exercise...just to kinda see what happens.
