metrogirl
Maybe I am getting older and wiser, I don't know. There were certain foods that I detested. Coleslaw, hated it. Spinach, oh gross me out. Broccoli, worst thing ever created. However as I got older, I tried coleslaw and to my delight, I love it. Same with spinach. Just recently, I went out to dinner with the boyfriend and broccoli was the side dish with my dinner, I looked at it and curled my lip. Sitting there, I couldn't help but notice how good it smelled, so I tried a tiny bite and it was so freakin' good! So I have been eating broccoli, even prepared some for my lunch today. There are still some things that I haven't eaten in years that I know I disliked for one reason or another but now I'm thinking I should just try them again and see if anything is different. I still can't get over how good little green trees are! Link to comment
Mauxly
At one time I'd have rather eaten a dead mouse than a brussle sprout. But now they are one of my favorite foods. I think that two things happen, our taste buds mature. And we learn how to cook. My mom would boil the brussle sprouts (nasty). I broil them with butter and garlic (yum)! Link to comment
mfan
I think we also get bored with the usual stuff and crave novelty - anything new, even a small dead soggy tree. Link to comment
Cognitive_Canine
Squash and Zucchini. It's like night and day how much of a difference a few years made. Link to comment
Catdancer
Every 7 years your body chemistry changes which causes your tastes, allergies, etc to change. Makes sense. I always hated spinach and asparagus. Now I like them both. Link to comment
dangletsbang
I used to hate avoc@dos..with a passion..the past year or so i've been obsessedddd with them though. Link to comment
Shortpants
Onions and mushrooms are the things I have hated the most. Now, I will eat onions and do like them. Longpants is a huge onion fan, so we have them in just about everything. His tuna fish is: tuna, LOTS of onion, lime juice and a little mayo. I had better like onions or I'm not eating! Mushrooms, not so much, I still hate them. It's fungus for god's sake! Eeeeew! Raw, they are nasty and remind me of mold flavored styrofoam. Cooked, they are slimy and still taste like mold. Blah! Reminds me...Landon was eating dinner, had his mandarin oranges and was shoveling them in like crazy...I put a couple of beets on his plate and watched him...he put one in his mouth, spit it back out, picked it up and threw it in the floor. So much for beets. lol Link to comment

fLuiD
I have had the opposite happen to me. Where I love one kind of food, then suddenly despise it. This happened to me with garbanzo beans. Link to comment
metrogirl
For as long as I can remember, I have hated split pea soup. Oh sickness....... One time when I was in the hospital, after having a c-section they let me eat a couple days later. They sent a big cup of nasty split pea soup. I was starving, so I gulped it down and never forgave the cook that made it or the hospital that served it to me. I wonder if I tried it now, would I like it? I'm really thinking about this, maybe I should just try the foods that I dislike and see if that is still the case. Link to comment
sophie274
Rhubarb's the only one that's really coming to mind - and I only changed my mind because I was basically force fed rhubarb for a week, so it was learn to love it fast or have one heck of a bad week! I used to HATE tarragon, now I quite like it. Same with cilantro. Red meat I've had phases of worship and disgust. I've always HATED fish and seafood, haven't had any since I was 2 and my mother gave up on me, and everyone keeps telling me I'll grow to love it, but it hasn't happened yet. I wish I did like fish, because it's quite healthy, and I just feel rude being unable to eat fish (at someone else's house), but just the thought of it makes me gag. Link to comment
Taikero
I stopped caring for fish for some time, but I've come to appreciate it again. It was mostly because picking out bones was a hassle to me (I usually ate freshly caught fish when I was younger). Mangoes and Papaya are the only foods I ever really detested. I like Mangoes a lot more now (had some dried Mango this morning actually), though not sure about the Papaya. I'm able to cook pretty well so that's probably why I enjoy nearly every kind of food and am usually not all that picky about what's for dinner, especially if I have a full array of spices and condiments at my disposal. Ok, I can agree with mangos. I have never liked them but.......I tried and liked the mango drink at jamba juice. I'm weird. Link to comment

I should qualify that it was only fresh mango I detested. Mango-flavored things or things with mango in them I was usually fine with. For some reason just eating the fresh fruit alone was just bleh to me. I did go through the whole "I don't like green vegetables!" phase for some time, mostly with broccoli and spinach, but grew out of that pretty quickly once I figured out what to pair them with or how to cook them. Momake
I go through bouts of really hating deep fried foods. Like the thought / smell / taste just makes me want to puke... then other times I will eat it and love it. It's a cyclical thing with me it seems. Also, I despise cilantro with a passion and always have. Link to comment
sophie274
Mango is the most delicious fruit ever!!! Can't believe anyone hates it. I would eat mango all day long if I could. Link to comment
capbit
^ agreed, mangoes are one of my favorite fruits, next to starfruit. I was repulsed by a.vocados when I was younger and now love them to death. Link to comment
veneratio
oh yeah, sushi and hawaiian pizza are the only foods that come to mind. Used to hate 'em. Now there are quite a few foods that I don't like anymore that I used to love. Link to comment

Jake
I used to hate fish as a kid (smell, taste ect.) Now I love fish, put a salmon on a grill with some lemon and you'll draw me from miles away lol! I also disliked supreme pizza with all the nasty vegetables on it (olives to name one) but now I really like it a lot. Link to comment
metrogirl
Last night I was steaming broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots as part of my lunch today and my daughter says to me "mom, the Jade (my veggie eating grandbaby) is sleeping, she's not going to eat those veggies". I said "those are mine". Her eyes were as big as dollars. She wanted to know how and when I started eating the evil broccoli. LOL I have a nice size bowl of yumminess today. Link to comment
WomanWriter
I used to hate bell peppers, but now I like them (as long as they are stuffed with ground beef). Same thing with onions. I love onions now, as long as they are cooked (no raw onions...yuck)! Link to comment

Ginger1
yes! Used to hate olives and beets. I wouldn't say I 'love' them yet, but I will eat them. And I now go out of my way to eat olives! Basically I WANTED to like olives-but I couldn't get over the taste. I'd keep trying them, and eventually I found some milder varieties that I could handle and since then I have branched out and enjoy them. Beets still kind of working on them, I like them in salads Link to comment
