casanova23
HI So i'm turning 19 in a couple of days and i'm having camping party trip. Me and ALOT of friends are going to this lake where we are going to party and drink and have fun. Now here comes the part where you tell me it's wrong, and we shouldn't do it, but we will regardless so if anyone could give me any tips on not getting caught that would be great. also, is it legal for cops to search our water coolers and tents? could they do anything more than tell us to turn the music down? any help would be great. Yes there is a tip. You'll be found guilty knowing such party was taking place and you participating. Don't do it. If they have any reason to believe you guys are partying with underage drinking, they have every right to search the area. Link to comment
BellaDonna
If it is state property and the rules forbid alcohol, they can legally search your stuff and also kick you out and/or press charges. I've seen it happen at state-owned beaches and camp sites many times. Link to comment
Fudgie
If you are that worried about getting caught, I wouldn't go. That's my advice. That being said, it sounds like you are indeed going. I would a) not get drunk, drink moderately b) DON'T do drugs/smoke pot (cops can put up with underage drinking more than illegal drugs) and c) Keep the noise down. And yeah, cops can go through your stuff. They have a right. Link to comment
annie24
Police can search you if they have reasonable cause to think you are breaking the law. The best way to not get caught is to not act like morons. No, i am serious. Ok, if you go and drink and have fun, that's one thing. but if you are doing things that are upsetting and annoying to the other campers near you, they can call the police to tell you to knock it off. if they smell alcohol on your breaths, if they see you can't walk in a straight line, if you guys get caught operating vehicles while drunk, yes they can and will arrest you. it's one thing if you are having a few beers by the campfire quietly. but another if you are acting like obnoxious morons, disturbing the families near your site and not letting them sleep. they'll get fed up and call the police on you. jengh
Who owns the land? I used to go on camping trips all the time before I was 21 but I was careful to be quiet and not raise suspicions. Just be careful and if you're that worried it'll get crazy, don't do it. Link to comment
casanova23
thank you for being understanding. yeah it's not like I'm going into this trying to act like the biggest douchebag i can. I want to do anything i can to respect other campers privacy (I'm hoping to get a secluded spot.) I'm bringing trash bags so there wont be bear cans and trash all over the place. There will be absolutely NO drunk driving but be still want to have fun and celebrate my birthday, which includes drinking, dancing, beer games exc. I want to have as much fun as possible while still being safe and keeping out of trouble. I want to be as smart about this as i can Link to comment
renaissancewoman101
Be discreet. Don't be loud and obnoxiously drunk that someone (other campers), complain about you to the cops (because the cops will come check it out). When you guys go, is it all going to be a bunch of really young people? If it is a campground where you have to pay to get in, be discreet about the coolers and stuff. Don't act like you guys are there to party (since you will attract attention). Link to comment

"bear cans" lol. are there bears in the area? Link to comment
casanova23
beer cans, sorry we dont have a boat and i dont think anyone will be going in the water anyways. I'm not sure who owns the land. you have to pay to get in sooooo..... and yes there will be a lot of young plp, but we're all over 18. Link to comment
renaissancewoman101
I wouldn't bring beer cans. That can easily be discovered. Recently, our city banned drinking on the beaches out here. A lot of people are upset with that. They circumvent the ban by bringing liquor in water bottles and coffee mugs. That way, unless the cops had reason to search, it would not be evident. Again, discreetness is key. Link to comment
Fudgie
I wouldn't use a boat...and stay out of the water too. We had a kid die in my area recently. He was at a beach party, got drunk, wandered into the water, got tangled in the reeds, and drowned. Everyone else was drunk so it's not like they were there to help him. It's sad. Be careful. Catdancer
I suggest buying some cheap disposable cups and pouring your beers into them. that way no one can see that you are drinking alcohol. Link to comment
misssmithviii
My friends and I had a beach bbq-and-drinks thing at night when I was almost 19 (so over 6 months ago). The cops ended up showing up and thankfully me and my man didn't drink, but even the guys that did never got questioned because they hadn't drunk much and there was no evidence of the bottles. They just asked us what was going on. We weren't even loud or rambunctious but they do patrol (especially at the beaches where we live near in Malibu). It freaked us out a bit and personally, I don't suggest you do it if you don't want to get in trouble Also, you can't exactly control all the other people. As a simple rule: you don't want to get in trouble, don't put yourself into the situation. You want to have the party and get drunk all you want, if I were in your position I'd do it at my house or my friend's beach house - both of which are on their own private property and secluded plot of land. I wouldn't do it otherwise because of neighbors/campers nearby/etc. But that's just me Link to comment
Cognitive_Canine
I would buy disposable cups (not the red ones. Dead give away) or drink your alcohol from thermoses. Just don't be loud and don't do anything stupid. As long as you aren't bothering other campers, no one will have reason to search you or even come near you. Also, always stay away from the water when drinking. Honestly, that's an accident waiting to happen. Don't wander into the woods either. Link to comment
