How to be less scatterbrained?

Recommended Posts

Coffee doesn't work. Red bull and other energy drinks/shots don't work. And I don't want to do drugs, even prescribed ones. I've managed to fix a bunch of mental problems that I've had through out my life, but being scatterbrained is something that won't go away. Any advice for the scatterbrained?

Coffee/caffeine is probably going to do more harm than good. My mind is usually going in 10 different directions, so unless I'm borderline unconscious, caffeine just makes me more manic.

Try some ginkgo biloba. If you're not taking any other medication, it should be safe, and maybe effective.

Have you ever been tested for being ADD? It has taken me 50 years to figure that out. Now I understand why I have to write down lists every day, and why it takes me 5 weeks to get around to sending someone a card in the mail.

Immediately, try doing yoga, at a real studio. It can do wonders for slowing you down, so that you get at your root core.

There are natural herbal 'flower essence' that you'll probably benefit, it keeps your mental focus and they taste very neutral. You might want to check out your local health food store and ask them. I had one made by my acupuncturist and seem to work well without feeling like I'm overly focused.

Get minimum required sleep. Also drink plenty of water. Healthy eating helps but noticed a huge difference within a week after drinking around close to a gallon of water a day. (Or an ounce for every 2 lbs of your body weight). Banana also seem to help more so with positive mood and as long as your diet is fairly consistent and add quality supplements you should notice a big difference.

Until you know what is really causing your "scatterbrain" you won't know what would be most useful to change it.

Although I agree with turnera who suggested yoga- or meditation- both of those practices tend to have a beneficial effect on the mind- calming, focusing, etc.

I find music helps me focus if I really need to get something done and can't find the drive to do it on my own.
lol, my D19 has to have music on when she studies. I'm like 'how can you concentrate?' but whenever I turn the music off, she's like 'I can't concentrate, it's too quiet!'

Yeah the Ginko biloba pills should work you can get them at walmart for like $5 in the vitamin section. I use to get them. THey help make you alert and improve memory and stuff. I use to take them for memory,...but i could never remember to take them. haha

I've been trying Ginkgo Biloba too, but it has been making me think way too much. So much that it's hard to concentrate and it just ends up making me more scatterbrained. So I'll probably quit taking it unless the effects suddenly change after a week of taking them.

lol

Think too much?

Yeah, it's kind of hard to explain. It only happens for 2-4 hours after taking the Ginkgo Biloba. It's like my heads about to explode from too many running thoughts. I think it just makes me think way too much instead of being less scatterbrained.

I know what you mean...especially if I had full eight hour of sleep but drink coffee anyway in the morning. It feels like I can do everything at ONCE.
