Can a pregnancy test done at the OBGYN be wrong? Just a simple pee test?

My ex is having cramps everywhere, yeast infection, back hurts, nipple area dark, and her stomache feels "weird" and shes tired all the time. She hasn't yet missed her period so I don't see how she can be feeling these symptoms so soon. She went to the OB yesterday. She takes BC though. she only bleeds when she stops taking the white pills and moves on to blue. and when she doesn't take birthcontrol she bleeds. so its hard to tell if she's having a period or a bc withdrawl bleed.

what do i do now?

Pregnancy tests do NOT give false positives. They will occasionally give a false negative for a variety of reasons.

The only way to get a false positive is if she was on fertility treatments which introduces the hormone into her system that's only there when pregnant. Even a very faint positive is positive. If this isn't the outcome you wanted, sorry but...I've researched this for YEARS. Read my post in pregnancy.

BC isn't 100% effective. She could've gotten a false negative because it's too early to test. It is early because she hasn't yet missed her cycle.

If it was a positive, she's positively pregnant though.

Early pregnancy symptoms are A LOT like PMS though. It's very hard to tell the difference. She may just be having the symptoms because the BC is holding it back.

I'm a little surprised though, she hasn't missed her period yet and the gynecologist decided that she should do a pregnancy test on her?

When is her period expected to come?

Well she was at the OB for a yeast infection and they just decided to do an preg test on her.

BC is not 100%, plus if she takes and it and does not take it.....you can get pregnant easily. An OB would know she was pregnant by looking at her cervix...it causes changes. False positives almost never happen. If she did not want to get pregnant she should have taken her BC more religiously.

To be fair you can get pregnant even while taking it religiously, and we don't know that she didn't. Let's not accuse her of getting pregnant on purpose or being neglectful. I think the OP was just saying she gets her period when she stops taking the hormone pills, and takes the sugar/placebo pills - which is the way it's supposed to be.

He was saying she takes it and not takes it. Yes, I know people can get pregnant on BC as my step sister did TWICE. However you have a far greater chance of being pregnant if you do not take it the way it was intended.

Well we have to wait for him to clarify. I read it as saying she gets her period when she stops taking the active pills and either a) takes the placebo pills or b) takes nothing.

Yes, clarification needed....but what I got from it was sometimes she does not take it as intended, every time.

Well, pregnancy tests seldom give false positives, so if I were you I would go off of the assumption, for now, that she is pregnant.

First thing for her to do is to get a blood test to confirm the pregnancy.

Then you two need to sit down and discuss what you want to do. You can read up on different options on the internet - basically abortion, keeping the pregnancy and giving the baby up for adoption, or keeping the pregnancy and the baby. Do you have an idea of what she might want to do? Had you two every talked about this? Do you know what you want to do?

And then talk to her. I think if you don't feel that it's best for you two to have this baby, it's ok for you to tell her that and to tell her how you're feeling, as long as you make it clear that you will (hopefully) be a good father to the baby should she keep the pregnancy.

From there, just take it one step at a time. You'll get through this.
