Binoo
About 5-7 days before my period I eat uncontrollably. I can consume about double to triple the amount of calories in a day that I normally would. And even then I only eat that amount because I have to try so hard to force myself to stop. I'm always hungry. I'm trying to lose about 15-20 pounds before summer and I worry that this binge eating every month is going to prevent me from reaching my goal. If you have had the same problem with binge eating, is there anything you have been able to do to control it?
jengh
I'm the exact same way. I think I would eat the refrigerator if the food was all gone. I can't control the amounts I eat, but I control WHAT I eat... I usually make a HUGE pot of vegetable soup... bouillon cubes, zucchini, carrots, onion, celery, cabbage, green beans, corn, basically any veggies I can find. It's the weight watchers 0-point soup. BellaStranger
I'm exactly the same as well and jengh's advice is perfect really! I do myself a big bowl of carrot and celery sticks to much on during the day when I just feel like I have to eat anything!! I also find going to the gym a few times during the week prior to my period or walking alot helps and eases period pain as a bonus!
fLuiD
I agree with jengh. Stuff yourself with all the healthy foods you can. Are you following any kind of diet to lose this weight?
Binoo
I agree with jengh. Stuff yourself with all the healthy foods you can. Are you following any kind of diet to lose this weight? Nothing too specific. I just need to cut way down on the complex carbs and get a lot more protein. So, I haven't made any extreme diet change because I know I'll just end up going back to old habits so I just adjusted it a bit. I don't eat meat so I drink 2 protein shakes a day. One for breakfast and one at lunch after I finish at the gym. With my shakes I'll have a granola bar or some fruit or something. Sometimes I'll have a snack in between. Then usually a salad for dinner. I'm fine to stick to a diet like this almost all the time except before my period. Then I'll eat all sorts of things healthy or not. I eat a lot of bagels and that sort of thing. Can't stop!!!
shes2smart
Well, if this is a regular occurrence, you can kind of plan for it, too. I get the ravenous thing going a few days before things start....but then, the first few days of my period all I want to do is sleep, not eat. I figure it evens out in the larger picture -- I eat more than usual for a few days, then I eat less than usual for a few days. If you combine that with making better food choices, that'll probably take care of it. I wouldn't completely cut out the ooey-gooey chocolately sugary stuff on the ravenous days....cut down, yes....but not cut out. If you cut it out completely, there's an aspect of psychological deprivation that sets you up to eat even more.
itsallgrand
Yeah, I am hungry as a horse too during that time. I think it is ok to have some feasting once in a while, and if you have a sense of when your period is likely to come, you can plan for it. Is it anything and everything or specific cravings? Honestly I just let myself feast but try to stay away from SALT. Caffeine. And tobacco (well when I smoked, I cut back during that time). And go for nice long walks and get some nice stretches/relaxing exercise in. And set the place up so there isn't a lot to feast on that is going to totally poop out your plan the rest of the month. Go out for a walk to get your chocolate.
