Is anyone else using it? I used it for a year, 5 years ago, and was comfortable with it. I don't recall having any problems emotionally or physically. Yesterday I decided to start using it again.

You leave it in for three weeks, then take it out, then your period starts. Insert another a week later. I remember this...but I also remember feeling very insecure about the idea of letting him cum inside during that week of having it out. That's also the most vulnerable time for my cycle, normally I would never let him do that during that time because of the chances of pregnancy. After three weeks of having the ring in, does that "mute" the chances of getting preggo during the fourth?

I don't have a doctor where I live, and here it's over the counter without a prescription. I would see and ask a doctor if I could but at the moment I can't.

I went on the website but didn't see anything about this question.

No, birth control does not protect you during your week off. You need to use another form of protection during that time.

You sure about that? I'm pretty sure that your week off is the same thing as taking the inactive pills with oral contraceptives. You don't need a secondary form of protection during that time.

I guess I'm not sure... I always thought that you weren't 100% protected (or rather, 99.9% protected) during the week off of any birth control and it was wise to use a back-up during that time... when I went to the doctor to get on the NuvaRing, she seemed to imply at the very least that I wouldn't be protected during my week off... she told me I could wear the ring two extra days to "maximize the time I was protected" or some such phrasing before taking it out for five days...

You're protected during the week off. When you're not protected is if you take the ring out during sex and leave it out for awhile. When I used it, my doctor said that it's best to use condoms if you take it out during the 3 weeks when it's supposed to stay in.

if you take it off or it falls off during those three weeks, you have three hours to put it back in and you are still protected

thanks for the responses! i feel like a total n00b with BC since it's been so long since i used it.

has anyone experienced weight gain with the ring? when i took the pill back in high school, my boobs got so big it was a struggle not to trip over them or get punched in the face repeatedly when i walked. maybe it's an exaggeration, but still, i recall being miserable when i saw pictures of myself after a few months of taking them and wanting to die.

i had weight gain the last time i took the ring, but i don't think it was directly because of the ring...i was dealing with some hard core emotional issues that caused my weight to fluxuate like crazy.

i'd love to hear others' input about nuvaring.

No weight gain, no mood swings, no breakthrough bleeding, no spotting, can't feel it, don't have to take a pill everyday, bf can't feel it, it has never fallen out

love it.... can't believe it took me so long to switch from the pill to the ring.

I was on it for 2 years. You are protected on your ring free week, and you have about 3 hours after sex to put it back in and still be safe (as others have all mentioned)

No spotting, but lost my sex drive completely, lots of down there dryness, and about 10 lbs weight gain (with no other exercise/diet changes). Switched to Yaz, and I'm better again.

But damn, it was convienent! Hope it proves side effect free for you!
