ToF
Hi all, hope everyone's doing alright This is mainly for the ladies, but if some men out there have any insight into menstrual cycles, any advice is welcome! I'm about 11 days from starting my period, I've been on birth control pills for probably 4-1/2 months now, and I started getting what felt like menstrual cramps yesterday afternoon. Is this an ovulation thing? Is it even normal? I took a pregnancy test this morning (I'm paranoid) since my last period was so light, and it was negative. I'm just wondering what this could be, or if its just a normal woman thing. Thanks to anyone with advice -TOF Link to comment
Shortpants
In the middle of your cycle, like 14-15 days, is when you would normally ovulate, and yes, you can get mild cramping when the egg is released. When you are on hormonal birth control, this causes the egg to be released too early or too late, thus making it not viable, and it could make the day you ovulate less than or more than the usual 14 to 15 days. I never felt the ovulation when I was younger, it wan't until I was in my late 20's that I finally noticed that I got mild cramping in the middle of my cycle. Now I can pretty much pinpoint my ovulation days by how I'm feeling. Short answer, yup, it's normal Link to comment

lavenderdove
Well, if you're on birth control, you shouldn't be ovulating. It is easy to mistake pain from a bladder infection or intestinal cramps for menstrual cramps. Link to comment
Honey Pumpkin
I get cramping when I ovulate, always have done - it's actually quite painful; I used to worry, but now I know what it is, I relax. I thought it was appendicitis once, lol. I can tell which side it is as well, it's really weird. Link to comment
Shortpants
Well, if you're on birth control, you shouldn't be ovulating. It is easy to mistake pain from a bladder infection or intestinal cramps for menstrual cramps. If you are on a combination (estrogen and progesterone) pill, it works by preventing ovulation (no egg, no fertilization, no baby) If you are on a progesterone only pill you still ovulate but other changes in your body prevent sperm from getting to the egg. I should also look into the possibility of it being a bladder infection... Thanks for all the help everyone! I really appreciate it, and I feel better knowing that other people experience this Link to comment

ToF
Lol @ annie! I considered the same thing though, because I've been ill for the last week and a half. But I'm still feeling the cramps today, and they are most definitely of the menstrual variety IMO. I'm kind of worried that I'm going to get my period early for some reason? I can't imagine why, as they have been like clockwork since I started the pill. I've also been told that it can take a very long time for the pill to stop making your body act funny, so it's possible that this is just another thing I will be dealing with now Link to comment
