job offered, but starting date is pending. what should i do about getting a current job?

Recommended Posts

Basically, I am offered a job, I have the position, but I might not start for a 2-3 months time period. possibly much shorter , but the thing is I really need the money ASAP and have absolutely no idea when I'll start this job. It could be next week for all i know. How should i approach job hunting now, knowing that I'll quit pretty soon? I'm trying to find short term jobs like seasonal and stuff but it seems like those jobs only want to hire 16 yr olds. Also, if I get a job now, how should I approach quitting? Just tell them I got another job? I feel bad lying because they will probably ask me things like how long I plan on staying there and I can't say 2-3 months or else they won't bother hiring me.

anyone have any advice or ideas on what i can do??

I won't be making that much money at the job I landed (thats part time) but I just need a little something to get by (broke college student here) and the job I got is more about experience than the money. but i still do need 'something' from now until then.

Yes the goal is a part time. I've filled out forms for both part time and full time jobs but its pretty hard to get a job at all it seems.

I will look up some temp agencies, thanks for that idea.

been trying to get random jobs off craigslist but does anyone have any experience or success with this? seems like no one replies or they want like 2 days of work for 30 dollars.

You should find a job that you might want to keep even with a full-time job... some thing thats fun with flexible hours. That way you're not lying if you say you want to stay for awhile. However, you can be honest and say your availability might be limited to weekends and evenings come 2-3 months from now. Depending on the job it may or may not be an issue.
