Condom advice

I'm asking this question because I am really not sure where to ask in 'real life' - I mean, I can't bring it up with friends or relatives because it is just plain too embarrassing. I don't want to offend anyone, or appear to be boasting or make anyone feel in any way uncomfortable. So I don't really want to have any negative responses - I'm only looking for advice, not a telling off!

Firstly, I must stress I am still to have full sex yet - so I am buying condoms to try so I don't have to be so embarrassed when I actually get down to doing it.

Where I live, there are basically a few ways to get condoms. You can buy them in vending machines, where they are very expensive - or in a chemists (I believe they are called drug stores in other countries). The vending machines are good if you don't want anyone to know you are buying them. The problem is, however, they have one or 2 brands only (the British/European 'Durex' and the American 'Mates' here), and each of those has lots of different varieties based on colour, texture, lubrication, etc. But, curiously, not for length? On the pack is mentioned "nominal length 172mm", which is about 7 inches I believe. Now, a lot of people say that condoms are to fit any size, well, that is the case I imagine for width, they really do stretch quite far, but once they are actually on, they sometimes don't stay stretched - they kind of pinch the skin quite a bit, and it's pretty uncomfortable, and not really very sexy! And sometimes, I have not been able to get some of them on at all (especially the 'extra sensation' ones, which are meant to be a closer fit).

But I find for length, when you roll them down, they only come down to a certain point, and no amount of stretching will roll them down any further.

I have also tried to order some online, they have a condom here called "My Size" which on the pack says it is 223mm, and 64mm in width (which is about 9 inches by 2 1/2 inches), but although this is much better, it still feels very much like it is constricting bloodflow, if that makes sense - when I roll it down to full length, I can see that it is kind of like..hard to explain, I mean, it is clear that the condom is making me a lot thinner, if that makes sense. The length is a lot better, but there's still quite a bit 'out' at the base, but I'm not sure that matters too much, only would it not roll up and down during sex?

From what I was told by guys, it matters what condom brand you get. Certain brands do not feel like you got a rubber band around your penis. Some do. If it feels too small you may want to upgrade to a larger size.

A condom shouldn't be doing that during sex. If it is then you got a size way too big!

I don't know much about European condoms, but I have been using Durex for years with my partners (I am unable to be placed on birth control due to severe reactions to hormone medication). I've never experienced the condom breaking or causing discomfort to my partners. I can vouch for Durex.

That's not the problem I;m having I haven't had sex, so I wasn't sure exactly what happens to the condom. I just sort of imagined if you had a glove on your hand, and you were putting it in and out of a hole in a wall to get some sticks (for example!), if it was not all the way on properly, eventually, it would fall off as it caught on the wall? Not a very good likeness to sex, I know

Hmm not exactly sure what your talking about here but let me shed some of my experiences. I went and got myself a bunch of different types from the store. I'm not sure why you would be embarrassed to go inside the store to buy some. If it makes you that uncomfortable maybe they have a scan yourself isle? Well try as many as you can get, to see if you like it or not. I've always hated condoms so I get extremely thin ones, also another little tip is to add a drop or two of KY warming inside the condom so it feels a little better. Now you don't want to get some giant large condom that is designed for horses or to boost the male ego beyond relief (actually just charging more when a normal one will be okay) but some people do have problems with girth. Go look online, and find a delivering condom website. There are plenty of websites for condoms designed for Porn stars who want ones incredibly thin.

Hope that it helps.

Hmm - it seems I must have been pretty bad at explaining - what I mean, I have tried a lot of different ones - I don't have a problem buying from the chemist, and I don't have problems about the thickness or thinness of the condom. The problem is when they are on, they are very tight (uncomfortably). I have also ordered those ones online, and this is the largest size I could find. They are still a bit tight, like I have a ring around my penis after I take it off, and they do not stretch all the way down - I was just wondering if the length thing is a problem during sex, and if there is anything else I could do about the width problem - I don't want to be constantly feeling pain when I am having sex.

I don't think that's normal length.

Condom packs actually mention the length?

Maybe you need to use a garbage bag?

Or stop bragging?

1 - I read the pack, it said nominal, not normal.

2 - If you read the pack, yes they do - also, when you buy online, the dimensions are mentioned. Some people don't read the packs obviously because they are not interested. People who are interested read them.

3 - I explicitly stated that I didn't want to boast or make anyone feel uncomfortable in my original post. If I offended you in any way, or made you feel like you had to act negatively, then I'm sorry.

Seeing as you're over 12inches, (according to your other thread), I think you'll have an extremely hard time finding condoms to fit you. Only thing you can do is research on the internet. Good luck.

Hmm, thank you. There must be something out there, just takes a lot of looking I guess.

Why do you think that's not normal (?) I had in mind normal would be maybe just one centimeter less but well that size doesn't confuse me neither.

Maybe you can contact people from Durex bu mail, using their site. That's what I probably would do.

And I expect it's not really a problem if a condom doesn't get stretched till - let's say - the balls. But I'm not sure so if someone thinks it is please correct me.

I have noticed that too, on my boyfriend, i was putting one on him, and It seems to be pretty tight and it would roll down at times, really annoying

If you google, "customized condoms" or "custom condoms" you can find a few sites that specialize in condoms that would match your dimensions. I had to research this with my ex.

Here is one site, in particular:

To all the envious/skeptical men on this thread, I suggest you back off the OP. If you have nothing constructive to contribute, find other threads that don't trigger you.

OP, yes, if a condom doesn't roll all the way down to the base of your penis, you could get some rolling up during sex, which is not safe.

Do you mean they are too small in that when you fully unroll it, it has not reached the base?

A condom should be a certain tightness to stop it slipping off. Both Durex and Mates which can be easily found in the UK offer larger sizes (Durex Comfort XL and Mates Extra Comfort). If you are saying the above then have you tried these? These brands are sold regularly in the UK and are therefore tested to British Standards (BSI Kitemark - this one is very important), International Standards (ISO4074 : 2002), and European Standards (CE 0086), which mean you can be sure that they are manufactured to very high standards.

If you have tried these and they are still not large enough (if that is what you are saying?) then there are other brands not commonly found in UK shops for sale on the internet probably by UK based retailers (a Google search will turn them up) which you could try as a last resort. I say as a last resort, as you may end up with something that you are not familiar with, that is not sold in the UK normally and that may not meet the same quality standards or actually be more of a novelty condom (than designed for protection) and it could be harder to tell what you are getting. For example someone from the US probably would have no idea what the British Standards BSI Kitemark looked like or meant, and the same goes for someone in the UK who wouldn't know what the equivalent US standard is and would not be able to judge the quality.
