When your in NC on your ex does that mean you can't communicate with close mutual friends as well?

First, why are you doing NC? What is it you're trying to achieve?

Mainly to get over my ex and focus on myself and part of me hopes she comes back soon or later but i'm not setting my hopes high for that though.

My advice would be to remove as many reminders of her from your life as is reasonably possible. It's all about trying to keep her off your mind. I think as long as you tell your friend that you don't want to talk about your ex, and ask them not to share anything with you about them, then you should be fine.

I wouldn't stop talking to the friend. As much as you're trying to heal and get over your ex, if you don't want to lose a friend you shouldn't alienate them from your life because of the situation. Just when you do talk to them, make sure its apparent to them that you don't particularly want to discuss the breakup in any way.

When my ex and i went NC, i continued to talk to mutual friends but the subject about our break up and relationship was almost never brought up. So you can continue to talk to mutual friends but make sure that you don't discuss the relationship.

It doesn't mean you must necessarily avoid the people, just avoid all talk of the ex and the relationship. Otherwise, it's manipulative use of the people--and that's transparent.
