I hate the word, "NOTICED"

Every time I think to use it all I can think about is how it sounds. Like if I wanted to bring up something about someone, like, "I noticed you said this the other day," or, "I noticed you were wearing this...." It just seems like an impersonal word.

Does anyone have any suggested alternative words to sound more personal?

"It seemed that you were"

"It appeared that you were"

"It came to my attention that you were"

"Based on this I thought"

"I was alerted that you were"

Really, any phrase that shows that the person has recognized something subtle is the beginning to a personal conversation. You have to know someone enough to "notice" that something is off.
