Everything you like to talk about minus the swearing (pardon the assumption, but if you're like most 14 year olds...)

 

Ask her about her favorite band, if she has any siblings, what she wants to be when she grows up... It's all in. Or try something out of left field. "What would you wish for if a genie gave you three wishes?" is one I like to use. It tosses the ball to the other person, gets her to talk, and gives you three subsequent opportunities to shift the subject.

 

Mostly, just be yourself.

That three wishes idea is great. I like where it leads to. You have some good suggestions.

Fenix, are the two of you close in age? what do YOU like to talk about? Let another person know about you just as much as you would like to know about them.

Often, it's not what you say, but what you get her to say. Ask lots of open-ended questions, and be genuinely interested. If she gets off on some subject you can't stand, don't be rude, but try subtle ways to change the subject to something you have a mutual interest in.

 

You want her to feel like she's talking TO you and not AT you. Ask her to elaborate on certain points, and use her name quite often (it's the telephone equivalent of keeping eye contact, also to be used face-to-face). Don't just go "yeah, uh huh, sure..." because that's really frustrating. It makes her feel like you're hoping for call waiting to give you an excuse to cut her off.
