What's wrong with my grades?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I suppose I get like this at the end of every semester but I feel sort of split in a matter of speaking. Every semester as I'm about the check my grades, my anxiety flares up. I tell myself to expect "B's, and A-'s" and not to freak out when I see them. I've never been the perfect student, I am intelligent but lively matters do often come up and balancing my academic life with other matters isn't my best of feats. This is beside the point though. Every semester I hear people say "I got a B and I'm so happy" or someone would say "I did terrible, I got a B." Now I know not everyone is going to be in agreement with one another about what is considered to be a "bad grade" but I always sorta got the impression that a 'B' is something to be proud of. I don't go aiming for B's or anything but sometimes the professor's teaching didn't engage me enough or other times it's just my fault because I'm not motivated. Either way, my transcript is full of B-'s to A's with the rare C in classes that made me want to pull my hair out (2 Spanish classes with professors that did not learn the meaning of "beginner Spanish" and a math class with a professor that hardly spoke English). So should I really be proud when I see B's this semester? I already got an A- in Social Psychology because I missed some homeworks when I had to tend to my grandmother's health (now passed )

I'm proud of my B's, I do A work but my testing grades are what bring me down. I got a bunch of C+'s and one B my first semester back and was disappointed because I worked my tail off and it just wasn't showing, so I switched majors and worked hard but not as hard and did better. Anyway I was told "C's get degrees", by my therapist and it helped but it into perspective for me. One professor said she doesn't give "inflated grades" and her class average last semester was a C-, I was scared but I ended up with a B+ in her class. Anyway no IMO a B is nothing to be ashamed of, but if you're used to being an A student it might be. I'm proud of my B's, but I'm most proud of my A-. I'm even really proud of my C+ in Statistics because I was worried about flunking and I passed with a +, pays to show up for class.

I am always disappointed in myself when I get a B. I know I'm capable of getting As in most of my classes and when I don't, it is upsetting to me. If the best you can do is a B, then that is good and you should be proud of yourself. I KNOW I am an A student, so Bs really upset me. Grades do count when you are applying for Grad School. You need AT LEAST a 3.5 to get accepted at most Grad Schools. If all you want is a Bachelor's, Bs are very good to get.

Those students that go, "oh my god, look I got a B! Oh noooo!" are just trying to show off. Anyone with common sense should know better.

Agreed... they just want the reinforcement of another student to day.."No, a B is great. you are sooo smart"

kind of like an attractive person going , "Ohhh.. i'm so ugly, i'm so fat.. bla bla" when they just want someone to tell them how great they are.

If you are proud of your grades, don't let anyone else get you down. Heck, in some classes, (Math) i was happy just to pass with a 50% whereas if it was a language or English, I know i was capable of an A+

a B is not bad at all!

I think it's also about the work you put into the class. If you actually spent the time doing the homework, the papers, the reasearch etc... and you tried really hard, you might be more disappointed to receive a B than if you did no homeworks and just scrapped off with some okay mark on your final.

Depends what you want to do with your life afterwards...if you want to go to grad school, some programs require a 3.0 and above while others require like a 3.5 and above (depending on program, etc.) Grades aren't always everything either depending on what you do after school. I don't get that disappointed when I receive a B.
