perception issues

Recommended Posts

A group of people in highschool gave me a bad reputation, now I'm 40 and working at a Catholic University(yes, please call me stupid if you think I am for working in a place like this after receiving a bad rep.) A couple of people who I work with have a hard time looking at me and talking to me who previously came to me all the time. Without actually asking them, do you think this is a sign they know? Would you ask them? and how?

So you are saying people in high school gave you a bad reputation and you think the people you work with know about this? I like to think that things we do, depending on what it is (in high school) was when we were young and not mature. Sure certain things carry with us, people remember how we acted if we were in a close knit school, but we grow up. Some people make mistakes, grow up and change, others stay in that mindframe and don't change their ways. I don't think it's bad your working in a Catholic University, you are a grown woman and pursued your career. I wouldn't ask them if they know about something that happened in high school; if you say it was the other people responsible for ruining your reputation then thats just it - it wasn't something you've done?

It would have to be pretty darn heinous to merit such, given the timespan. If you still work in the same community you schooled in, it may be a tiny bit more understandable, but still not enough to make ends meet for me.

I mean, if your rep entailed trying to kill people's babies and sacrifice them to Soren Kierkegaard, the otherworldly arch-nemesis of God, then yes, I get the connection. Otherwise, if it's just one of those 'high-school things' like being loose or manipulative or even something slightly crazier, then no, I don't see it. Depends on how 'up tight' your work enviro is, tho.

I still look young sort of young and I don't think anyone has any idea how long its been. I was perceived to be promiscuous, and maybe I was just a little. I work in Purchasing so there are always sales people trying to get in and may try to investigate more about the Buying professionals. Does that sound logical?

Logical, maybe. Matter one bit? No.

Again, depends on the severity of promiscuous, but I doubt it unless you're surrounded by a belt of people so out of touch with reality that they think that this is still 15th-century Europe and sex isn't a word that should even be thought of in the midst of another human being.

Plus, we're talking about sales people. Could you think of a more dysfunctional sector of the public to deal with? OK, but let's not go there. Sales people don't care if you're a hooker or the hooker of babylon - just as long as you buy the products that help them put food on their table (and C4 in their trunks and whatever else us crazy sales people buy ).

Are you under an unusually high level of stress lately? Anything change in your life of late? Have you suffered from mental illness in the past or suspected such?

Ok, so thats your take, but what about other guys views? Do you think most would agree? I think I'm going to be one of the most talked about people at work if I stay there. Why do men insist on carrying on with these things? My self perception is going to take a dive, if everyone starts looking at me different and treating me different.
