Scar removal

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about it more and more lately. 2 Years ago I got pretty bad acne on my upper arms and shoulders. Which sucks, b/c I was left with (very apparent) scars there, and it's the one part of myself I really hate..

I can't/don't want to wear sleevless stuff let alone a bikini.

Has anyone here had cosmetic treatment (like laser, or other) to get rid of scars which bothered them alot? Do you know someone else who did?

Or what other things you've tried which helped?

I'm using Bio oil. I'm not really sure if it's helped but I figure it can't hurt to keep using.

I have Kerotosis Pilaris - looks like acne basically - on my upper arms. I use Mederma on it and it works - slowly but surely. It works the fastest if I put it on a new bump that I've recently scratched and is scabbing over to prevent a scar. But it also works on old scars, just takes longer. I've been doing this once a day since late Feb, so its not going to be instant, but I'm def seeing improvement.

I have no knowledge of cosmetic treatments though, sorry!

I have the same problem Jeckyll!! I work so hard to tone my arms, and then I won't wear sleeveless shirts to show them off (even though they are still kinda flabby). I'm going to try the Mederma and see how it works. Wicked, does it dry out the skin at all? Do you put lotion over it?

Oh thank gosh (well kind of.. sorry you guys also have to deal with this). I thought I was the only one with this problem.

I really wish I could wear all the cute sleevless styles. I'm very into fashion and dressing nice so it's a bummer not to be able to "join in" with certain trends. Or even wear a bathing suit like I said.

I'll be trying Maderma.

I've been using proactive on my arms in hopes to prevent any future break outs. Plus proactive seemed to fade any scars I had on my face from past acne. I just don't like using it much on my face though. Leaves a bit of an oily after feel (since I already have oily skin).

Do you guys also have it on a large part of skin? I used to have a really tiny/little area here and there which was scarred but then suddenly it got worse 2 yrs ago for just a month. And Bam.. there I was left with the scars.

I have it all over the top part of my upper arm and my upper back. I used to tell the doctor that I had pimples there and he told me that it wasn't possible to get acne on my arms. But I definitely do. I just bought mederma yesterday and started using it!

Lol. What!? The doc said you can't get it there?

I've seen so many people who have it there and so I thought it was just acne and common at first.

If you can get a 3 step kit like wash, toner and lotion I recommend that. Or otherwise those acne pads (I specially like the one from Neutrogena - orange colored pack) which help prevent them for the most part to help stop more scars forming.

I never combine Mederma with lotion. I guess I'm afraid the lotion will "wash" the Mederma away - and its like $20 a tube. It doesn't dry out my arms at all. I do lotion atleast twice a day, because I find it helps my Kerotosis Pilaris A LOT. (For KP exfoliating with a loofah daily and lotion are key, at least for me.) I always find a time to put on Mederma during the day when I haven't lotioned. If I create a bad scab, I'll wipe the lotion off that place at night, dry it, put a blob of Mederma, and cover it with a band-aid over night to let it soak in there.

My general doctor originally told me that my KP was acne on my arms. But then I went to a dermatologist and they said it was KP. It looks just like acne... some people only get discoloration in their arms, but i get the white heads.

I'll post a picture a little later of what mine looks like. No current break outs, but you'd be able to see the healing scars.

Actually I also keep getting whiteheads. And other time I see red dots which look like a whitehead is formng (I asume it's clogged pores or something).

I'll try and exfoliate every other day since I've heard exfoliating every day isn't good for skin either.

I'm glad to hear your seeing some improvement. With scars every bit helps right?

The type of Kerotosis Pilaris that I have is actually clogged pores. KP is when your pores, or I guess hair follicles, get clogged with extra keratin. Some people don't get these and just get the red dots.

I kind of need to exfoliate everyday with a loofah, otherwise my KP breakouts get bad. I use plenty of lotion to keep my skin from drying out.

The pictures I tried to take were not very good. If you want to compare yours to KP try: link removed

^They have photos.
