2soon4this
I am off from work this week to do minor surgey. I told my boss I would not be in until the following monday and asked her if it was possible for me to get paid from my vacation time which i have 5 weeks remaining but i have no sick time. She tells me that vacations are taken in advance so she cannot give it to me. (she has done this before for many others) she has approved many emergency vacations for other coworkers. When I say to her I really cannot afford to lose a weeks pay if she can subtract it from the 2 weeks I have approved for next month june. She says ok no problem so you will only take 1 week, ok i will do that then. Meanwhile the company is shutting down at the end of june because they are having financial difficulties because the CEO stole millions and left the country (another story) so the company is being taken over by a new company and no one knows what will happen with our vacation time. She makes it seem as if the money is coming directly from her pocket. Now Im thinking about it. I was so desperate to get pay for the week off but I still need my 2 weeks in June to rest and set up new interviews for another job. I am thinking what if I called the head boss and ask if I have to subtract it from my 2 weeks approved already for june. I am not sure how this works is it the directors call if she wants to pay me or not if I have no sick time but i do have vacation time? Im not sure of this? Should I tell the director when I get back that I still want to take my 2 weeks the only way she can deny me from vacation time if i have the time is if another teacher in my classroom is taking vacation at the same time and they dont have enough coverage which is not the case. Should I call the head office and let them know what she is doing to me. I also have a union on my Job that does nothing. confused a little advice Link to comment
Crazyaboutdogs
Given the shaky situation with the company, now is not the time to make waves. You are taking a week off to deal with the minor surgery. She compromised with you about using one of the weeks in June for this week off. I think that was a fair compromise under the circumstances. If nobody knows what will happen with vacation time when the new management takes over then it sounds ike your director made the best decision she could to accommodate you while dealing with the future uncertainties. Leave it alone and keep as low a profile as possible. If you get known as someone who causes problems you could be out the door when new management comes in. Link to comment
2soon4this
Should I keep quiet when I have always given them the opportunity to walk all over me. I am not planning on staying at this job anytime past aug. If I am not laid off before then. My director said to everyone she is not approving any vacations in July for anyone but has approved vacations for all her favorites. Should I just let this go when I am not even sure if I will get paid for my 3 weeks remaining. There are 2 kinds of people on my job the quiet ones who gets walked on and the loud mouths who gets what they want and kiss asses when she is around and talk about manangement behind their backs (those are the favorites) because she is intimidated by them. The loud mouths call the head office quickly to complain and gets what they want. While the quiet ones like myself gets dismissed and mistreated because she can get away with it without thinking that we wont say anything. Link to comment
Crazyaboutdogs
In a year from now will it really make a difference? Favouritism on the job is a fact of life. No matter where you go you will face that. It is one thing if you are fighting for being bullied and mistreated..but it is simply over vacation time...why ruin your reputation over a fight for a week's vacation. People talk, word gets around and you don't want to be known as the person who created waves over a one week vacation. She is giving you the time off now...she does not have to approve an extra week for you in June. You can fight if you want..but I think that will prevent you from doing what is really important...looking for another job. Save your energy for job hunting not battling over a one week vacation.
