I feel completely hopeless

Recommended Posts

Many people feel their job is killing their soul. That usually means you need to focus on your life outside your job, and to develop a plan on how you can get out of that job and into a better one.

People also usually don't like their first job. You need to start somewhere, and when you have a year or two of experience, you now have what it takes to move into a better job.

So make a point not to work yourself up every time you go to work. Your mantra should be, 'it's just a job and i don't have to do it forever.' Meanwhile do what it takes to get a better job, which is continuing to intervew, or get training or a degree to move into the job you want.

Many times an education can subtsitute for years of experience (i.e., qualifications are 2 years of experience OR a certificate or degree). So if you don't have a degree, start school part time while working, or worked toward an additional degree or certification if that is what it takes to get into the job you want.

Sitting around feeling sorry for yourself and hopeless never solved anything, developing a concrete plan on how to work your way out of it will.

I feel completely hopeless because every single job ad I see wants you to have 2 to 5 years of experience. How did anyone ever get a start in life? My current job is slowly killing me and my soul but I wish it would hurry up right now.

I went through this too, once upon a time. The only way to do it is to focus on skills accumulation and leadership experience in whatever job you are working on now. And continue to expand your knowledge in the field you want to work. When you can sell yourself as being mature, skilled, passionate, and dependable, you get a shot in your field. Internships also work very well.

Connections. They matter more than brains, attitude, education and experience combined.

By the end of the recession, the resume will be obsolete.

BLAG BLAG BLAG! Blag your way into that job, you may not have the experience in that particular job but you can surely go for an int. and turn other life experiences you've had into fitting into the same category. Also if you are confident and put yourself over as a quick-learner, who knows what their decision will be!
