Myles
At the age of 22, I can't really say I've accomplished much. I want to experience life. I'm still home with my parents sad to say & I'm not doing much.I'm very confused about what I want in life. I tried college for one year and it's not for me and it's not where my head is at, well not currently. I'm not employed at this time either. I'm feeling very lost and left behind because most of my friends are moving on in life, they either have children or they're graduating school. My girlfriend is even leaving this summer to start her own life in Louisiana. Far away from me. I was thinking about joining the air force. It's a way for me to travel, experience and explore new things. It's a way for me to grow and become independent. I'm pretty much not doing anything else. I'll definitely look into it. I just want to make my own life because still being home with my parents with nothing to do is depressing me deeply. I'm also scared of being on my own... Link to comment
steelcitymstro
Everybody is nervous to get out on their own, so don't feel bad--this is something everybody goes through. There's really no shame in living with your parents at your (our) age--it's a relatively new trend for people in their early 20's to feel the pressure to move out as soon as possible. If you were a college-minded person (which not everyone is), you may have been able to get through some of these insecurities a little sooner, but not by much. The military may have the same affect--you will get to travel and experience new things and you definitely won't be alone. I think this may be a good idea for you if you are genuinely interested in the lifestyle. Link to comment

I just feel like it's time to discover who I am, and being home and with my parents isn't helping matters. It's time I leave because the longer I stay here, the more I won't grow. Link to comment

I think you have a good attitude about this whole thing. I don't know much about the military either, but I would suggest talking to non-recruiter military people right now if possible--I've read some interesting stories about how desperate recruiters are right now.....I'd question their objectivity when answering your questions.
