Could I get kicked out of college. AHH...HELP!

You know you need to respond, so do it. The longer you wait to respond, the worse it looks on you. I'm not sure what the rules are on smaller colleges versus a university, but from what you're saying it seems it is, and maybe they can.

You might be scared, but thats what adult life is all about. My advice: email the principal TONIGHT or first thing tomorrow morning. Because by not seeing the principal will make him/her feel that you don't care and thats why you're missing, not because you have trouble waking up and could have a sleep problem or whatnot. Thats why its imperative that you do it right now, let her know I haven't checked my emails I'm sorry, make an appointment, and talk to her about it. Because trust me, once they tink you don't care, its pretty much set in their head. So give yourself a chance to explain yourself and you may gain some sympathy and wise advice

Here's a little test you could try on yourself: if you had to get to a certain place by a certain time the following day to pick up a winning ten million dollar lottery prize and if you were late would forfeit the money - would you get there on time?

If the answer is 'yes' then the reason would be that you were motivated. So think about that.

If the answer is 'no' then you have a problem that should probably be addressed by a doctor.

Yes, you most certainly get kicked out for bad attendance. If you are not there you do not know the work so how can you graduate and say you know the work? Maybe if you paid for the course yourself you would get up in the morning. I would email the principal or whatever IMMEDIATELY. To be honest no employer to going to say "oh you poor girl you could not get up" They want someone who comes to work and knows the work.

Check with your dr as to why you need that much sleep and rule out medical conditions or depression issues.

This is an excellent test of motivation.

They CAN'T kick me out for horrible attendance can they?

If not for attendance, then you might get academic probation and/or dismissal for getting Fs in all of your morning classes.

Cant you schedule your classes so that they are all later in the day?

I had to write 2 finals at the end of March and I talked to a couple of my teachers and they agreed to let me write the exams, but if it happened again I wouldn't be able to.

I thought I was alright after that. And I've only missed 3 out of 9 days this month in April.

Hm, if they agreed to let you write the exams, contingent on that "it doesnt happen again," I think they may have meant that you canNOT miss any more classes? And yet you say you missed 3 more classes this month. Are you sure your teachers will accept your final exams?

I think if you tell the principal that your school email account is not your main email so you saw his/her email right now, the principal may be willing to schedule a meeting with you.

I dont think you should tell your principal about not being able to get up early enough to go to class; just apologize and tell the principal you wont let it happen again. and don't let it happen again bc it is most likely that you will NOT get too many chances to make up your absences and missed work.

Yep. You CAN be kicked out for attendance, even moreso at a technical/business college than at a university.

E-mail the "principal" (Is it really a principal, or is it a Dean or something of that sort?) and tell her you would like to schedule a meeting ASAP. Then, be as honest as possible. Don't make up excuses or exaggerate -- just tell the truth. It still may not turn out well, but if you're honest, you probably have a better chance.

I agree with the other posters, too, about seeing a doctor. If you can't get out of bed until after 11:30, you may be suffering from depression or some other illness, particularly if you are sleeping more than 8 hours a night. If you are simply going to bed really late, then you should work on adjusting your sleep schedule.

It sounds like you missed a tremendous amount of class. If you were in one of my classes at community college, you would have been dropped by now, as many instructors in my department don't allow more than 4 or 5 absences all semester unless there is some significant emergency.

I hope it works out for you...

at some schools, it is school policy that a student that misses a certain number of classes canNOT get a grade other than a F. so even if the instructor wants to help the student out, they are not able to.

Yes, like BEG36 said, it's probably best if you do NOT make excuses bc that could make things worse.

good luck

but if I was going to be kicked out, and the e-mail was sent on April the 3rd...and its not almost april the 15th....wouldn't the priniciple have done so already by contacting me by some way other than e-mail..maybe she just wants to lecture me on bad attendance

the e-mail said she asked for a read receipt and i clicked no. So if she does get ahold of me over the phone or at school, I am just going to say I didn't get her e-mail and then explain my problem. But seriously, she would have contacted me and kicked me out by now I would think..

it also says in the student manual that if an employer calls after you graduate, they will tell about your attendance and it has 0 to 5 days great 6 to 10 days good and 15+ days poor. so why would the last one even be on there if they were going to kick me out

I think you need to discover WHY you can not get out of bed than spending time looking for an excuse. You can not carry this over into the work world, no employer will keep anyone long that can not get up for work. In the present economy millions of people are looking for work and the employer does not have to take someone that can not get up. Find out WHY you can not get up. Is it motivation or medical.

Professors do not care if you are too tired to wake up. They worked long and hard to get to the position they are in--and they most certainly won't have sympathy for you if you have trouble waking up for 8:30 classes. They do not care if your alarm won't wake you up. You have had at least a month to remedy this issue, and to find some way to make sure you get to class on time.

At my university, official policy says that if you miss more than 4 classes (unexcused), you WILL fail the class. Not all professors hold to this, but it is always a possibility.

To me it just seems like you don't really care if you're on time or not. That says to me that you don't care about school. Why go then? Why waste your parent's money?

I DO care about school. Even though it may not seem like it. I've even pulled all nighters JUST so I KNOW I'll make it to school in the morning. If I didn't care, I wouldn't be panicking hardcore everytime I missed a day of school. And I know I should've resolved this issue, and just when I think I have. I sleep through my alarm again, or turn it off in my sleep.

Simple solution to all these "jitters" you have would be to arrange a one-on-one meeting with your principal [or dean]. They are usually there to HELP students... good principals/deans will not just sit there and yell at you and scream.

They have heard millions of stories and come accross millions of students with different issues.

E-mail/call/contact her and set up a meeting asap. The sooner you do it, the sooner you get it over with and the SOONER you can start getting your college life back on track.

Okay, the only reason I haven't met with the principle yet is because I am afraid of getting kicked out. But does anyone else agree that if she was going to kick me out, she would've done it already since it will be 2 weeks on friday since I've gotten the e-mail?

No, I disagree. I would imagine news as significant as expulsion would be delivered in person, with a follow up in writing (a letter).

I know that you're looking for reassurance here, but I don't think there's anything we can do. The best reassurance you'll get is once you're in your Dean's office. Only then will you know.

And you'd better be prepared to apologize for not answering the Dean's email for two weeks... if I were him/her, and I called in a student with poor attendance, and she didn't contact me for two WEEKS, I'd be pretty pissed off. It makes it strongly appear that you don't give two flying colors about academics or school.

Get in touch with the Dean ASAP and set up an appointment.

Maybe they haven't contacted you again after two weeks of your ignoring the email because they have other things to get on with- classes to teach for the students who make it there and are serious about their work. Supposing your place at this school is in jeapordy (I hope for your sake it isn't, but it may very well be), it is not the principal's job to chase you around and make sure you get the message. If you want to know what's going on, you're going to have to take the initiative and find out yourself. I go to a huge university, and it's easy to feel alone because whenever I want something, I have to go about and get help myself, but help is always there when I ask for it. It's the same with you. I'm sure if you'd asked for help initially, you would have gotten it, but there's only so much anyone can do for you if you don't do much to change.

What's done is done, but like everyone is telling you, please email the principal/dean and see what's going on. Just be open and honest, as that's the best you can offer, and realize that if you're serious about school, you're going to have to act like it in order to stay. Plenty of people would kill for this opportunity, so really think about how badly you want this.

I agree with this.

The issue that your principal wanted to discuss with you IN PERSON is not simply going to go away just because you avoid the principal.

You really should contact your principal as soon as possible bc your lack of response may compel the principal to make the decision FOR you about your future attendance at this school.

I do not believe you are ready for the responsibility of getting yourself to college. Why don't you work for awhile and mature a bit? I used to turn off the alarm, also. I got a job that started at 5:30 a.m. That cured me. I can get up whenever I have to nowadays. But I needed to experience real life for awhile first. When the roof over your head and the food you eat depends on you getting your behind out of bed, you will find a way to do it.
