I had to check the back of my vitamin bottle. I'm taking these new multi-vitamin. They're called "Women's Ultra Mega Heart"....Made by GNC. I buy my vitamins from GNC. Rite-aid carries them. They cost $20. 90 capsules come in each bottle and I have to take 3 per day...all at once. They're pretty good. I have to take vitamins everyday or my menstrual cycle will be irregular.?? don't really know why. good question to ask though? Maybe soemoen knows??

You might not have enough iron and other nutrients otherwise in your diet.

To OP, * 100-200 Calcium

* 150-200 Folate

* 140-170 Iron

In mg?

Yeah in mg =)

I find it very hard to reach all of these on a daily basis, I don't know how people incorporate this with dieting!!! I think it would be almost impossible on a low-calorie diet unless you eat almost nothing but lots of beans, beef, parsley, fish, spinach, asparagus, broccoli and dairy.

Haha, no no - it's just that I've started tracking my nutrients over just proteins, carbs and fats. I thought I was eating well but I realized I wasn't eating as well as I thought. I do eat lotsa fruits and veggies, fish, bread and chicken but I never knew how poor in some nutrients this was =S!

I really thought I was eating very well - slap in the face!

I'm eating lots more oatmeal, parsley, asparagus, flax seeds, bran and beans now =) I still need to figure out how to fit dairy into my life - I hate unrefrigerated dairy *cringe*

I said yes, but I take vitamins (I did that before you specified). I only get about 1200 calories a day, so unless I'm eating perfectly, I rarely get everything I need. I do try, but lately I've been eating a lot of empty calories.

Yeah I bet - I find I can reach it at around 1800-2000 calories per day but I still have to be conscious of what I eat (though not perfect). I was mostly wondering how you 1200 calorie people do to consume the nutrients but I'm assuming most don't.

Yep. I tracked everything I ate for about a month on fitday. That's when I started taking vitamins I was missing quite a bit.

Yeah, that's what I realize too.

Vitamins are no replacement for real food though in terms of quality and absorption, so I'm kind of not sure where to go at this point.

go to mypyramid.gov....OMG! You will be able to find out which nutrients are in your diet. It's a very beneficial website if you want to know what you are ingesting....Of course, nothing is %100 accurate, especially when dealing with the department of agriculture... but it is a really FUN site to poke around at!

If I ate a 2000 calorie a day diet, I'd be as fat as a pig. I gain weight very easily. I'm well aware that food is better than vitamins, but I don't want to be fat. It's the trade-off I have to make. My iron and folic acid levels are good though, according to blood work.

Yeah I've been using a tracker to find out what nutrients are in foods. I've actually reached and went over those targets today but I was very conscious of the choices I was putting in my body. And I'm not on a low 1200 calorie diet either.

So I was wondering if people on really low cal diets were able to make it, doesn't seem like it lol!

Lol, I guess that's relative. I'm not very slim either but would consider myself in the healthy range for my height. I'm also wondering what is the trade off in the long term ex: 20 years of being on a low-cal diet which will be deficient in nutrients obviously. Though I guess most people haven't been on them for that long....

I've lost 20 LBS in the past month. I went from 200 LBS to 180 LBS. I am going to start a strict calorie intake diet. I will consume no more than 1500 Calories per day, along with doing aerobic exercises.. Do you think I will have to do weight-lifting, if I don't want saggy skin?

It's the rate at which you lose/gain that makes saggy skin. If you lose fast then you will get saggy skin. It will take time for it to "adjust" to your new body frame as the skin is elastic.

If you do weight training it will definitely help.

I think with good planning a 1500 calorie diet could be very reasonable in terms of nutrients.
