Lump in vagina??

Recommended Posts

I just noticed a lump right inside my vagina, maybe 0.25 inches in. It's about the size of a cherry, and it's blocking most of the opening. It hasn't always been there, but I recently had a yeast infection and I'm not sure if it's just something normal that's just swollen. It does hurt when I have sex (I always use a condom, btw).

I had a pap smear and physical last month, and everything was normal. I'm not sure if I should wait a few days for any swelling to go down, or if I should call my doctor immediately.

It sounds like it could be a bartholin's cyst. This is caused by the blockage of the bartholin's gland duct. It creates a lump anywhere from the size of a pea to the size of an orange. Sometimes they go away on their own. Other times they need to be surgically drained. Take a look at this and see whether you think this might be it:

It sounds exactly like that, actually. I'm guessing I probably have a cyst that isn't infected.. so I should get this checked out?

You can always get it checked out for peace of mind. It's certainly possible that it's not one of these and it could be something else. If it is a bartholin's cyst, then it's usually not necessary to do anything unless it's painful or doesn't go away after a while. They recommend having sitz baths 3 times a day to help it rupture. If it comes back after that, then you might need to have the marsupialization surgery. Personally, I would only have that done at last resort.
