Girl at the gym...

This has probably been asked a million times but how does one talk to a girl at the gym that's always wearing an Ipod? Not only does she always wear an Ipod but she's always going hard on the treadmill. She has given me a couple nice looks so I feel I have a decent shot...

I swear between Ipod's and and women constantly on the cell phone us dudes have no chance to even say hello!

I don't think I'd like to be approached if was in workout mode. She's clearly not interested in picking up or she would give you plenty of opportunities. I don't recommend approaching her if she's got her ipod in, but if at some point you get the opportunity to talk to her, then by all means do it.

Try her when she's getting water. Pretend you're going for a drink too. Say something to her like, "You should take a break, you're really tiring me/yourself/that treadmill out" (pick one, I think the last one is risky cuase she might think you're calling her fat). She has to take a break at some point. There's always a chance to approach someone at the gym. Maybe she's shy and thats why she's not talking to you. Or she's just into her work out. Or she is expecting a guy to come to her. Or she doesn't want any guys to come to her while she's at the gym.

She darts straight to the locker room. I bet if she were single and interested she would linger on over near me. Oh well. Sigh! It's been almost two years since I was attracted to anyone. I'm just happy for that.

Waving would work well for me to catch my attention. Especially if I'm wiping down the equipment or whatever. Even if I had my iPod on. When I'm in the middle of cardio I'm not concentrating on anything but my heartrate and the music.

Does she do weight work? That's a little easier to catch someone's attention, although it's risky to interrupt a set.

Yeah, when I'm running on the treadmill don't come up to me! Heh.. but when I'm doing leg, chest or shoulder presses it's fine, even if I'm wearing my iPod and listening to music.

At the water fountain is a good idea though.

Ask her what she's listening to.

It seems like you either interrupt her while she's running, or you don't talk to her at all. Even if you feel like you're bothering her (even though she might not think so) it seems like the only chance you have to talk to her.

i would never bother a girl in a full on workout. but now that i think about it, i'm pretty ballsy. lol i still haven't bothered a girl at the gym yet. one situation i haven't done yet.

I talk to women all the time in the gym. But I never do it when they are doing cardio with an Ipod.

If they are walking around or between sets I aproach Ipod or not. I have never had a bad experience in this situation. Most people who are at the gym are friendly/happy (one of the benefits of working out) so take a chance..

you ask them out or just say hi and talk about gym crap?

Hmmm... might depend on the age or the culture at your gym. I rarely see that at my club. Mostly people who are neighbors or coworkers or something saying hi. I suspect there may be more of that surrounding the classes in the mornings and evenings. My schedule doesn't accommodate that so haven't checked that out.
