how clean do you keep your house?

Recommended Posts

Everyone feel free to post but I'm mostly interested in hearing what other moms have to say. The reason being - before I had a family I kept a freakishly clean home. Now I'll go through phases. Sometimes its perfectly clean and organised. Other times I'll feel like the whole Martha Stewart thing is way beneath me and leave the cleaning to a weekly once-over. I have to say, I'm generally much happier and more successful at work and in my relationships during my clean phases.

You?

I try so hard to keep my house clean but when my 16 year old brother and my two kids ages 4 & 3 get home, its just a mess.... I have more hassle and stress when i try to clean while they are there. So usually i clean twice a week (deep clean) when my kids are at their dads house... But i def. feel the same as you when it comes to my house being clean, i feel like the rest of my life is in order too!!

With a small child it's extremely hard to keep a remarkably clean house that I prefer so i'm the same as you I go through spells where my house is spotless and other times where my house is a living disaster (Not really dirty just 'cluttered' thanks to toys, clothes, shoes, etc, etc) but my kitchen stays spotless that is the one area I try not to slack on

I used to keep a spotless house once upon a time...now between work and the kid I do well to give it a good weekly cleaning. My kitchen is always spotless as is the restroom, but I've given up all hope of keeping clutter at bay and his room is usually a disaster area within an hour of it being cleaned. I won't even go IN his bathroom if I can avoid it. Teenaged boys are disgusting creatures!

I'm not quite convinced that its humanly possible to keep a spotlessly clean home with small children around. Ill visit friends who always have clean homes but I figure they must have thrown everything into a closet before I arrived. Heck, that's what I do!

I keep it clean but I also go thru phases. With a ft & pt job, plus school, sometimes I am too tired to clean. Once a week, on a Sunday, I will deep clean. Meaning mop, vacuum, clean the bathroom, etc. Laundry is my weakness. I HATE doing laundry.

Thank God its only me, I wouldnt know what to do if I had a family to clean after....

I don't have kids, and my place is quite chaotic. Not dirty, but there is usually some cleaning to be done at all times somewhere.

I'd found I am ok with that so long as I have at least one, but usually a few, clean zones. I mean, "ahhh, beautiful!" clean and organized and pretty. lol.

It's usually the bedroom and the bathroom. That's where I really relax.

My cure-all for everything is flowers. A quick clean and fresh flowers out - voila! My idea of clean.

I try to keep the dishes washed or at least in the dishwasher everyday. I probably put away random stuff that gets taken out but not put away every 3 days or so, do laundry once a week, then vaccuum, sweep, mop, & clean the bathroom every weekend that I have the opportunity, so sometimes every week & sometimes every-other week.

It's not perfectly spotless ever, really... but it looks pretty much ok most of the time. Mostly it makes me feel better when the carpet is freshly vaccummed with that powdery stuff you sprinkle before you vaccuum, and got the candles burning. Just makes a pleasant atmosphere at home!

i clean everything once i'm done with them. i can't stand to have dirty dishes in the sink - they must be washed~! floor must be swept and mopped after cooking. it takes like 5 min to do it all... so i don't understand when people say "i dont have time".

having a clean place makes me happier.

but people (roommies) think i'm crazy.

Glad i'm not the only one who does that! ha ha so many times i have tossed things in bedrooms, closets, behind the couch wherever I could when people pop over unannounced and I pray to god that they don't look LOL.. ever notice how guests NEVER show up when your house is spotless but it never fails once your house is wrecked everyone wants to stop by.

i clean once really good for about an hour once a week. sometimes i need to hit the mirrors mid week as i hate water spots. stupid i know.

I think that's the issue - the old spend a good day a week cleaning your place with minor upkeep every day does not work with a small child.

Famous adventures:

1- You come to take your bath to never find the plug(GONE!) - we need to use a scope bottle to block the drain until we get it replaced.

2- You realize, you just peed on a few utensils, papers, toys etc... (toilet)

3- Somehow there is an entire meal in your bed?!

4- That board game you were fully proud was still complete? Well some of it is in #2, the other parts half chewed etc...

I could go on but need to get out of work =)

I think unless you have good money to invest in compartments and organization, you will inevitably always need to pick up behind them!
