Possible UTI from jacuzzi?

Recommended Posts

Hey all...

I just wanted to know some things that could have caused this urinary discomfort. I was in the jacuzzi about a week ago and since then I've been having some pain in my urethra when I use the toilet. I've also been using Summer's Eve vaginal deordorant spray...could that be it? It's not a burning feeling, but actual pain. (I'm also sexually active with my bf (we are both clean of any STD's or infections). can having sex regularly cause UTI's?

I only feel the pain when Im close to finishing urinating. Could this be a baterial infection of some sort (I've never had anything like this, so I'm not sure if it's a UTI or something else). There are no bad odors, the urine is the normal clear yellow color. I have been going a lot lately though. A few days ago the urine was a cloudy yellow and thick looking, but no offensive odor, then it cloudiness went away and it was normal looking again

I've been taking some OTC's to alleviate the pain. I thought it would be gone in a few days, but it hasn't gotten better. I have a doctor's appointment today at 230. I've been seeing spots of blood on the tissue so I got scared and made an appointment. (I've should've done it sooner, but since I felt fine everywhere else I didn't think too much of it until I saw the blood). I know this may sound choppy, sorry! lol

Does this sound like a UTI?

You might have a UTI, but it wouldn't be from the jacuzzi or summer's eve. They don't contain bacteria (the jacuzzi was chlorinated, I assume?). The most common way of getting a UTI is getting bacteria from the anus up to the vagina. It's usually e-coli. This can occur a number of ways, including wiping the wrong way, sex positions that allow spreading etc.

I'm glad you're seeing the doctor today. They will be able to figure out what's wrong.

You wouldn't have felt the pain the same day that you were in the jacuzzi if it did cause it. The bacteria would have needed time to "grow" and worsen. Usually you have a UTI for some time before you start getting the pain from them.

They need a urine sample, how else are they going to know for sure whether or not you have an infection?

yea' date=' the water was chlorinated. I thought maybe that could have caused it since i felt the pain the same day. I'll be glad when I go in today. Will they need a urine sample or will he/she just ask a series of questions?[/quote']

They usually get you to pee in a cup and then they dip a test strip in it. They will be able to see instantly if it's UTI. They will probably ask you questions about having pain in your back because that can signal that it has spread to your kidneys. I had that happen once *shudder* If it is one, then you'll just get a prescription for antibiotics. No big deal.

I only asked i because I has asked someone about this and they said that they only will ask you some questions. I thought that information wasn't accurate so I just asking to be sure.

I took a suppliment this morning at 7, that relieves the urinary discomfort when I go. It said that it would turn the urine this firey orange (which it did) Hopefully the urine sample doesn't affect the doctor's testing (I will let him know that I took the suppliment)

Was it Azo? It shouldn't interfere with testing. It's pretty standard to take it when you suspect a UTI.

Maybe one of the nurses here could confirm that?

No different than really drinking a ton of cranberry juice and flushing your system out. Shouldn't affect it but just mention it to the doctor and if he thinks it may affect the results he may give you a specimen cup and have you do a first morning urine sample and bring it in.

I know someone that had a bad experience with a hotel jacuzzi. He filled it with water, turned on the jets and feces flew out into the water.

My sister got the most horrible UTI in China in a hotel bathtub.

Jacuzzis should be banned.

Thats why they suggest you run a hotel jacuzzi atleast once before you get into it.. Also most places have chlorinated water that kills the bacteria for the most part. Still possible to get an infection but no different than a swimming pool (Except it's harder for bacteria to live in a jacuzzi than it is for a pool because of the hot water).

That's the most disgusting thing I've heard all day

The Jacuzzi is still on my list, but I'm thinking it may be from the sex. we have been using spermicidal condoms and have been doing it regularly. I'm sure lots of fluids and fecal matter has been pushed around. I've never had a UTI before and since I've been sexually active for three months now, it makes me think that this is what may have caused it.

That almost made me hurl. Could be why I have never been in a jacuzzi, hot tub and never been in a public pool since I was a child. Just GACK!!

The person this happened to didn't get in the jacuzzi at all, thank goodness. He noticed a nasty smell in the bathroom and couldn't figure out what it was. So being cautious he ran the tub over the jets and poured Listerine in the water and turned the jets on. Then when he saw the poopie he called the front desk. They gave him a new room and a gift basket to cheer him up. I asked him how the cookies tasted, and he got mad at me. LOL

Ok, I just came from the doctor and it has been confirmed that I have a UTI (cystitis) The doctor said it was pretty severe and he was surprised that it didn't spread to my kidneys. That's very strange because I felt perfectly fine, other than the pain when I urinate. I have a prescription drug called CIPROFLOXACIN. I'm to take it twice a day for a week.

He was also surprised that I never had a UTI before...this is my first one. He said to make sure I urinate after each act of intercourse, wipe from front to back after each visit to the bathroom and drink pleny of water. He also said that it was possible that I got the infection from the jacuzzi being that there are lots of bacteria from the bodies of other people and the open environment

It does interfere wtih testing. They will not and cannot do a urine culture/test if AZO is present in the urine. The discoloring it causes masks the results.

Would anyone know if the supplement I took yesterday and today affect my urine test results?? It's a brand called Uricalm that relieves pain, burning, and the sensation of urgency. It turned the urine this firery orange

Since they did read your test then you had time for it to be gone. In the future it will mar your results if you take it the same day. The day before gives it time to get the urine back to normal color.

I was also going to say that yes, bacteria from a communal jacuzzi could potentially cause some problems....but i just read this thread and see you have already ret'd from doc. Glad you got it checked out. UTI's should never be left untreated.

The Summer's Eve sprays can also interfere with the natural balance of bacteria that should be present in the vagina so i would use them sparingly and only as needed vs everyday.
